Job Summary: 

US Embassy Uganda Jobs: The Intern will support the U.S. Mission’s American Center for a period of six months. The incumbent will assist with the administration of the American Center. The intern would be responsible for assisting American Center event planning, computer use monitoring, responding to basic public inquiries, scheduling appointments, processing membership cards, and managing the circulation desk.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • The American Center US Embassy Intern will also assist with circulation desk tasks, including processing membership cards, checking out collection materials, and accepting returns.
  • Answer basic questions regarding American Center services from callers or walk-in clients.
  • Ensure that Staff American Center information table is availed at public events and respond to basic public inquiries.
  • Add new materials to the existing collection, including magazines and DVDs.
  • Keenly monitor computer usage in the American Center.
  • Sort book, DVDs, magazines and other items according to established procedure and return them to shelves or other designated storage areas.
  • The American Center US Embassy Intern will also be keeping the space and its collection tidy.
  • Act as a back up to the American Center Assistant.
  • Other jobs as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicants for US Embassy Internship jobs should have completed senior six and currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution with good academic standing (official transcripts and a letter from the registrar will be required).
  • Previous participation in at least ten different American Center programs.
  • The American Center US Embassy Intern should have general knowledge of administrative and office procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment and perform under pressure.

UNITAR Uganda Internships: The REACH FLAT Intern is responsible for supporting REACH Assessment Officer/ Manager to ensure the successful completion of assessments in Uganda. He/she will also be responsible for related logistics, data cleaning, focus group discussion facilitation, leading enumeration teams and any other reasonable tasks need to ensure the success of the REACH mission in South Sudan and Uganda.

About Us:

REACH was born in 2010 as a joint initiative of two INGOs (IMPACT Initiatives and ACTED) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Operational Satellite Applications Programme (UNOSAT). REACH’s purpose is to promote and facilitate the development of information products that enhance the humanitarian community’s decision making and planning capacity for emergency, reconstruction and development contexts, supporting and working within the framework of the humanitarian reform process. REACH facilitates information management for aid actors through three complementary services: (a) need and situation assessments facilitated by REACH teams; (b) situation analysis using satellite imagery; (c) provision of related database and (web)-mapping facilities and expertise.

In 2018, REACH will expand its operations in Uganda addressing service delivery and information gaps in the refugee response across the country. REACH will provide direct support to UNHCR’s coordinated information management efforts through response gap analysis, coordinated needs assessments and geospatial analysis. The activities will be conducted in all refugee settlements across Uganda, from the South Sudanese response to the DRC and Burundian responses.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Management of ACTED FLATS Process for REACH: The REACH FLAT Intern will support the REACH Senior FLATS Officer and Country Focal Point through the systematization and management of all finance, logistics, administration, transportation, security processes. This will include, but not be limited to:

  • Review financial documents from field exercises prior to submission to finance
  • Gathering quotations and procuring items needed for REACH missions
  • Arranging transportation to and from field locations for REACH
  • Ensuring the timely submission of administrative paperwork such as attendance sheets and leave requests for REACH staff through the appropriate channels
  • Tracking all REACH equipment in country through monthly stock takings.

Maintenance of REACH records: The REACH FLAT Intern will ensure that all paperwork related to ACTED FLATs process is maintained and filed in a clear and logical manner for easy retrieval in the REACH Drop Box account

Support for field operations: The REACH FLAT Intern will, when needed, deploy to field operating locations to support REACH activities. This will include, but not be limited to:

  • In-field procurement
  • Transport of cash, payment of wages for casual labourers
  • Management of other FLATS processes

Other tasks: The REACH FLAT Intern will participate in other, undefined tasks that are necessary to support the REACH mission in Uganda. This will potentially include data collection, translation and liaising with local government officials.

Accountability to Communities and Beneficiaries: The staff member is responsible for ensuring that all relations with the communities we work are conducted in a respectful and consultative manner. Due attention must be paid to ensuring that communities are adequately consulted and informed about ACTED programme objectives, activities, beneficiary selection criteria, and methodologies.  This is the responsibility of every ACTED staff member.

Job Summary: 

Marie Stopes Uganda Jobs 2018: The Office Assistant /Caretaker will help with the organization and running of the daily administrative operations of MSIU. The ideal candidate will be a hard-working professional able to undertake a variety of office support tasks and work diligently under pressure. This person should be comfortable working with a high degree of attention to detail and discretion as well as incorporating new and effective ways to achieve better results. The incumbent will perform a wide variety of responsible office support and administrative functions in support of the assigned teams. This requires proficiency in the full range of general office services and functions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Courteously receive visitors and deliver messages to the team.
  • Clean/ ensure office premises are clean.
  • Ensure the security guard is always on duty and in full uniform.
  • The jobholder will receive VSP claims and confirm receipt by stamping on each.
  • Record received claims.
  • Prepare and dispatch claims.
  • Report any security concerns to the team leader

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicants for the Office Assistant /Caretaker jobs must hold High school diplomas /certificates or its equivalent
  • A diploma/certificate in any relevant portfolio is an added advantage
  • At least two years’ experience in similar position in a busy office environment
  • Good computer skills i.e. proficiency in Ms. Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of office equipment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work with people with diverse cultures.
  • Ability to demonstrate a can-do attitude,

NB: Note that this is temporary employment where the successful candidates will be required to work for 3 days in a week and this is a fixed term contract (the duration is five months maximum and non- renewable)
