UNICEF Internship 2018 : UNICEF – the United Nations Children’s Fund is an international non-profit organization that aims at supporting every child to realize their potential in life. UNICEF covers over 190 countries and territories across the world. UNICEF Uganda has a large country programme, and the Social Policy and Advocacy (SPA) section where the intern would be, plays a key role in research and analysis to guide evidence based policy development and public programmes.

 

UNICEF has been playing a leading role in strengthening the Government’s equity agenda in both national planning and budgeting by making data available to monitor the delivery and impact of national programmes affecting children and vulnerable Ugandans. This year UNICEF Uganda in collaboration with the Economic Policy and Research Centre (EPRC), and the University of Manchester will organize an international conference on What Works for Africa’s Poorest Children? in Uganda in September 2018. The call for papers issued in January. This conference aims to contribute to global efforts to end child poverty by generating key insight on practical actions, programmes and social policy interventions that have made a tangible difference in the lives of Africa’s poorest children.

How can you make a difference? 

UNICEF Internship 2018 : The Research Intern will contribute to the preparations (review of abstracts etc.), organisation and follow-up (production of a conference publication) of the What Works for Africa’s Poorest Children? conference.

The key functions involves the following:

  1. Programmatic engagement related to “What Works for Africa’s Children?” Conference
  2. Conference organization
  3. Evidence generation and documentation

To qualify as an Advocate for every Child you must meet the following eligibility requirements…..

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or PHD Degree programme or be a recent graduate (within the past two years).
  • A first degree in economics or social/political sciences.
  • Be proficient in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages: English, French or Spanish. Fluency in the working language of the office you are applying to is required.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • All applicants are requested to include a 2 – 3 page writing sample as one of the requirements.

Required EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Good research and analytical skills. Familiarity with statistical software such as STATA, and large surveys such as National Household Surveys and Demographic and Health Surveys, is an advantage.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to plan, organize, solve problems, implement, monitor and evaluate tasks and to deliver outputs to meet required deadlines; ability to relate well with a multiplicity of stakeholders; self-motivated and team worker, and of demonstrable and unquestionable level of integrity.

Job Summary:

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative Support:

  • Actively contribute to the End Market results by providing proactive high value Administrative and Secretarial support to the function on time in full (OTIF) and in an efficient and effective manner.
  • The job holder will have a critical interface with all other business functions.
  • Ensure additionally drafting of regular correspondences to various stakeholders of the company.

Calendar Management:

  • Effective time management to achieve and enhance the operation and service of the organisation.
  • Handle manager’s requirements in a professional and confidential manner to avoid delays in any given task.
  • Provide Personal Assistant Support to the Managing Director including event and diary management.

 Travel Management:

  • In liaison with Travel Management Company, co-ordinate and ensure all travel documents like immigration documents, air tickets, visas and renewal of passports for the functional heads are always up to date.
  • In-charge of organizing the transport and accommodation requirements for staff visiting Uganda and ensuring positive feedback.

Payments: Process and track payment requisitions through the SAP and follow-up with Procurement to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of services (business continuity) from the suppliers.

Company Fleet coordination:

  • Management of the Company fleet of vehicles. Coordinate the service providers to ensure higher service levels are achieved.
  • Coordinate staff usage of fleet vehicles to ensure adherence to policy, efficient use of fleet resources and time escalation of fleet matters.
  • Coordinate all reporting needs of fleet

Budgetary Support: Assist in the preparation and collation of the Functional Budget.  This includes accurate tracking of costs and expenditure with timely reports as required.

Meetings:  Organize and manage all aspects of Conferences/events/ meetings by ensuring all logistical aspects i.e. venue bookings, transport and accommodation are well synchronized and within budget with no hitches and delays.

Contract Management: Ensure physical records of all contracts are well documented and organised.  Ensure regular updates to the business on status of contracts.

Leadership:

  • Coordinate and ensure the function is records management compliant as required by the company.
  • Develop the schedules and ensure all files are coded and correspond with the schedules; and assist the team in ensuring they are compliant with the schedules

Relationships

  • Enhance and maintain good communication with both internal staff and external customers.  Being a central administration function, the job holder encounters a lot of enquiries on various issues hence the importance of a wide knowledge of other functions and end markets to enable accuracy in dealing with questions to avoid negative impact on the organisation.
  • Effectively liaise and communicate with the Leadership Team and business managers
  • Promote a good working relationship with the Travel Agent to ensure travel for the entire organisation is well coordinated.

 Innovation:

  • Efficient and cost effective management of the office stationery
  • Close liaison with IT help desk to ensure systems are operating effectively at all times.

Data Entry Jobs Uganda 2017: IT Roots is an Information Technology Company running a project that entails data entry and scanning of records among other projects.

Job Summary: 

Data Entry Jobs Uganda 2017: The Data Clerk role basically entails creating records in a document management system as well as scanning and attaching related files.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • The Data Clerk will prepare and sort documents and data sheets for the purpose of data entry.
  • Establish entry priorities by maintaining understanding of what data needs to be entered first.
  • Enter data into prescribed database software in the right way.
  • Ensure that accurate data has been entered into the database.
  • Follow data program techniques and procedures to maintain data entry requirements.
  • Verify entered data by reviewing, correcting, changing or deleting entered information.
  • Confer with supervisor regarding incomplete information.
  • The Data Clerk will also check completed work for accuracy and make any required changes immediately.
  • Check source documents against entered data to ensure data integrity at every stage.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining improved records within the database system.
  • Prepare automated data entry and integration reports when requested.
  • Perform document scanning and attaching/uploading files related to the entries made

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The candidates for the Data Clerk jobs should have secretarial training or experience preferably in secretarial bureaus. In short, all Candidates with the above mentioned typing speed are encouraged to apply irrespective of their Academic qualification.
  • Typing skills (most critical), a touch typist with a typing speed of no less than 50 words per minute with a very low error rate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Public Service Uganda Jobs 2017: Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Ordinary Diploma in Civil or Water Engineering from a recognized Institution. Possession of a Higher Diploma in Civil and Building or Water Engineering or Water Resources Management will be an added advantage.

DUTIES:
The incumbent will be responsible to the Senior Hydrogeological Inspector for performing the following duties:-
– Installing, operating and maintaining ground water monitoring stations;
– Supporting the upgrade of the groundwater monitoring network;
– Carrying out proper instrumentation of groundwater stations;
– Ensuring security of field installations;
– Supporting collection, analysis and processing of data from the groundwater monitoring network.
– Collecting data from drillers and drilling companies for update of national groundwater database.
– Carrying out primary data quality checks on all incoming data before submission to data unit.
– Supporting the update of the groundwater monitoring and national groundwater databases;
– Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Application Forms/Public Service Form No.3 (2008) in triplicate and PSC Summary Form (one form) should be submitted to the Secretary, Public Service Commission, P. O. Box 7080, Kampala to be received not later than 27th September 2017.

The Application and Summary Forms are obtainable from the Public Service Commission Office, 2nd Floor, Farmers House, Parliament Avenue, Kampala or Ministries/Departments and District Service Commission Offices, or can be downloaded from the Public Service Commission website www.psc.go.ug Hand written applications are also acceptable.

Application forms should bear the title of the post followed by the Reference Number specified against the vacancy. The appropriate Advert Title e.g. “PSC External Advert. No. 2/2017” should be clearly indicated on top of each first page of the Application Form No. 3 (2008).

Applicants should attach three sets of photocopies of their academic transcripts and certificates. Applicants subsequently shortlisted for oral interviews shall be required to present originals of their academic transcripts and certificates at the time of sitting the Oral Interviews.

Applicants should attach three (3) recent passport size photographs and should apply for a maximum of only two (2) posts clearly indicating the first and second choice against the post applied for. The Advert may also be accessed on Public Service Commission website www.psc.go.ug.

Applicants who shall not hear from the Public Service Commission, on completion of the selection exercise should consider themselves unsuccessful
