Job Summary:  The Products Assistant-Alternate Channels will;

  • Support the local Barclays Product Channels for Retail customers, ensuring the business remains competitive while achieving its stated income targets
  • To recommend and support to implement new channel product developments and enhancements to the existing channel set
  • Understand Barclays competitive position for each product channel and sector of the market to make recommendations in respect of local pricing and local market potential
  • Act as the principal point of contact on product channel issues for local sales and marketing teams

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Business Direction: 40%

  • The role holder will be responsible for meeting income targets for Retail products. This will be achieved by identifying opportunities for new product developments and enhancements in line with the Retail Strategy.
  • Monitor and provide feedback to centre on local competitor product activity, including pricing.
  • Undertake product legal and regulatory assessment as required.
  • Research and propose suggestions for channel enhancements to Centre.
  • Provide and analyse product income data for Local and Centre management information.
  • Maintain a complete record of all Channel Customers on a streamlined relationship management basis.

Business Awareness: 30%

  • Monitor adherence to agreed product channel pricing strategy, rectifying errors where identified
  • Work with Retail Sales teams to ensure appropriate product sales processes are in place
  • Provide business input for implementation of new products by: Engaging relevant stakeholders, building a business case, managing the development process where required, completing all local product testing, building a detailed local implementation plan, closely monitoring local implementation.
  • Give necessary notices to local government/regulators and public of product and price changes.
  • Liaise with Local Operations Centres, regularly reviewing all operational standards for product profitability, and identifying skills gaps.
  • Review and feedback into customer satisfaction surveys, responding to customer product complaints.
  • Work closely with People Development and Sales Management functions to design and deliver appropriate training, and give input into sales strategies.

  • Provide clear direction of the Barclays Africa business objectives by translating business performance objectives and measures into clear, concise communication

  • Based on a database provided, and a formalized script, call Customers as requested so as to support the business in achieving its goals.
  • Collate customer responses to all questions pertaining to out-bound calling, log to BOC/ complete the Excel sheet and submit to the Contact Centre Team leader/MI team as per laid down procedures.
  • Ensure that all the details pertaining to customer complaint is obtained from the customer, log all required details into the bank’s complaint management system (BOC) and follow up for resolution of all complaints that can be resolved at First Point of contact.
  • When receiving calls from customers or potential customers requesting information on the bank’s products identify the product requirement and the branch a customer would choose to deal with. Arrange for the in-branch Customer Advisor to contact the customer and follow-up whether this has been done at the agreed time.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Team Leader/Centre Manager

Job Summary:  The Universal Banker will deliver Exceptional Performance through Sales, Service and Relationship Management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Sales and Relationship Management – 50%

  • Agree, meet and exceed targets for specific sales and portfolio targets
  • Liaise with tellers and none sales staff to drive in branch referrals and develop a sales pipeline by sourcing leads and closing them.
  • Own the branch CLM base and increase cross sales by interesting customers on the into the different BBU product solutions.
  • Build relationships with customers through portfolio management thus growing the branch balance sheet.
  • Maintain own sales performance statistics for management information usage.
  • Refer to the appropriate area of delivery for specialist product help or advice (e.g. Schemes or Home Loans) when uncertain about the product delivery or application process. Respond directly to the customer.
  • Participate in specific product campaigns by ensuring that the products are explained to customers.
  • Complete account opening documentation together with customers and submit to the Branch Manager/Branch Operations Manager for review before submitting to operations for processing.
  • When selling loans to Retail customers, complete the financial analysis and statement review on customer accounts. Where customers do not meet the minimum criteria, advise the customer, verbally or in writing as the customer requires. Report such denials to the Branch Manager on a daily basis.
  • Call customers when their accounts have been opened, generate welcome pack letters and send to customers.

Operational Rigour and KYC compliance -20%

  • Ensure accuracy of each new account application, loan document, Barclaycard application and bank account mandate change. Relationship Bankers are held personally accountable for accuracy and quality of these and supporting documents that they complete and submit.
  • Achieve operational rigour excellence in all aspects of procedures and processes personally undertaken to ensure green audit.
  • Follow the Retail end to end account opening ensuring new accounts are authorized and KYC compliant. Escalate any items that exceed the agreed service level time lines or where there are unresolved KYC requirements, to the Branch Manager.
  • Comply with all general Barclays operational risk & rigour requirements e.g. KYC and anti-money laundering regulations.

Risk, Governance and Regulatory.

  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards. Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.”

Customer Service – 15%

  • Own customer queries and complaints around account opening, loans and card applications and resolve in a timely manner. Escalate any unresolved queries, or queries not resolved in a short period of time to the Branch Manager.
  • Build relationships with internal service providers (Operations and KYC Helpdesk) to ensure a quick turnaround time of escalated queries and complaints.
  • Direct customers to the appropriate delivery channel to meet their needs e.g. cashiers, drop boxes, ATM etc.
  • Advise customers as soon as new loans are approved and encourage draw-downs on the new loans.
  • When the branch is busy walk the queues- resolve quick inquires and direct customers to the correct counters.
  • Continuously engage and resolve any issues pertaining to the top 50 customers of the branch, together with branch manager establish a contact matrix for the top 50 customers

Branch Support – 10%

  • Together with the Branch Manager/BOM, open and close Cashier tills at the beginning and end of each day.
  • Authorise cashier transactions above their teller limits when called upon.
  • Act as cash custodian for the Branch. This involves checking cashier cash levels throughout the day, restocking cashiers or repatriating excess funds, and reordering cash from the external provider based on daily limits as set out.
  • Conduct snap checks as allocated by the Branch Manager/Branch Operations Manager.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Community 5%

  • Be involved in local community events and networking opportunities (e.g. clubs, meetings, business associations)
  • Developing the external market and community profile needed to maximize the local marketing opportunity
  • Identify community initiatives to become involved in and support as part of Barclays community initiatives (such as Make a Difference Day, Local community initiative, Financial Literacy)
  • Link community initiatives to both business opportunities and colleague events
  • Promote community agenda within the branch to build pride within colleagues and customers

  • Responsible for complete account opening documentation together with customers and submit to the Branch Manager for review before submitting to operations for processing.
  • Call customers when their accounts have been opened, generate welcome pack letters and send to customers.
  • When selling loans to Retail prestige customers, complete the financial analysis and statement review on customer accounts. Where customers do not meet the minimum criteria, advise the customer, verbally or in writing as the customer requires. Report such denials to the Branch Manager on a daily basis.
  1. Operational Rigour and Compliance with KYC Requirements: 20%
  • Ensure accuracy of each new account application, loan document, Barclaycard application and bank account mandate change. Personal Bankers are held personally accountable for accuracy and quality of these and supporting documents that they complete and submit.
  • The Barclays Bank Personal Banker will also achieve operational rigour excellence in all aspects of procedures and processes personally undertaken to ensure green audit.
  • Follow the Retail end to end account opening ensuring new accounts are authorized and KYC compliant. Escalate any items that exceed the agreed service level time lines or where there are unresolved KYC requirements, to the Branch Manager.
  • Comply with all general Barclays operational risk & rigour requirements e.g. KYC and anti-money laundering regulations.
  • Occasionally, assist the Branch Manager to open and close cashier tills at the beginning and end of each day.
  • Carry out snap checks as allocated by the Branch Manager.
  1. Provision of Customer Service: 15%
  • Own customer queries and complaints around account opening, loans and card applications and resolve in a timely manner. Escalate any unresolved queries, or queries not resolved in a short period of time to the Prestige Branch Manager.
  • Build relationships with internal service providers (Operations and KYC Helpdesk) to ensure a quick turnaround time of escalated queries and complaints.
  • Guide customers to the appropriate delivery channel to meet their needs e.g. cashiers, drop boxes, ATM etc.
  • Advise customers as soon as cheque books, cards and other account items are ready for collection. Follow up with customers that have not collected the items within a reasonable time.
  • Advise customers as soon as new loans are approved and encourage draw-downs on the new loans.
  • When the branch is busy walk the queues- resolve quick inquires and direct customers to the correct counters.
  • Restocks merchandising materials (pamphlets, forms) in the Prestige Branch and advise the Branch Manager if supplies are running low.
  1. Branch Support: 10%
  • The Barclays Bank Personal Banker will work closely with the Branch Manager/BOM, open and close Cashier tills at the beginning and end of each day.
  • Authorise cashier transactions above their teller limits when called upon.
  • Serve as the cash custodian for the Branch. This involves checking cashier cash levels throughout the day, restocking cashiers or repatriating excess funds, and reordering cash from the external provider based on daily limits as set out.
  1. Community: 5%
  • Identify and participant in community initiatives to support as part of Barclays community initiatives (such as Make a Difference Day, Local community initiative, Financial Literacy)
  • Significantly contribute ideas to support the community initiatives agenda in the branch.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the Barclays Bank Personal Banker should hold a good University degree or diploma or relevant experience in a front-line banking sales/marketing/service environment
  • Competitor product sales experience is an added advantage
  • The applicant should have comprehensive knowledge of the Bank’s products, services and policies including standard tariffs.
  • Possess a good understanding of overall Retail goals & objectives, including the branch’s objectives growth of sales, cost control and income contribution
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the sales process

Promotion of products and origination of new clients:

  • In charge of marketing of the Individual lending products

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Mobilize and sensitize customers about Bank loans and other Bank services/Products in line with set targets
