Mercy Corps Uganda Jobs 2018: The APOLOU Enumerator will gather valuable data from the community within the program geographical areas of Kotido, Abim, Kaabong, and Amudat Districts.

About US:

Mercy Corps is an International NGO that exists to alleviate poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities. Mercy Corps has been fully registered in Uganda as an operational NGO. Currently Mercy Corps has an office in Kampala and is implementing Food Security programs which comprise of Water and Sanitation, Livelihood and Agriculture and Conflict Mitigation Management Program in North and North Eastern Uganda. We implement programs in the northern districts of Pader, Kitgum, Agago, Lamwo, Kaabong, Abim and Kotido with funding from USAID, USDA, Walmart Foundation, SDC, DFID as well as other private donations.

About USAID Apolou Program:

In October 2017, Mercy Corps was awarded a 5 year USAID/ Food for Peace- funded program working in 4 districts in Karamoja, the Apolou Activity. The Activity has four purposes with cross cutting themes of gender and youth and resilience: 1) Inclusive and effective governance contributes to food and nutrition security, 2) Improved health and nutritional status of pregnant and lactating women, children under five, and adolescent girls, 3) Improved WASH conditions and 4) Adolescent girls, adolescent boys, women and men access diverse and secure livelihoods through improved capacities and strengthened market systems. Apolou is implemented by a consortium of actors led by Mercy Corps, including Save the Children, Whave Solutions, four local partners (KAPDA, AIDI, NARWOA and Riam Riam) and Tufts University’s Feinstein International Centre (FIC).

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Attend assessment orientations as required
  • Conduct field assessments as instructed
  • Complete data collection instruments as instructed and Submit/Hand in completed surveys on time
  • Keep the data collection instruments (Mercy Corps assets) secure & in good condition
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring positive recognition to Mercy Corps and not to endanger Mercy Corps mission.
  • Report all problems to the supervisor and communicate with supervisor on a consistent basis
  • Enter data into the Mercy Corps database

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the Mercy Corps Apolou Enumerator job opportunity should a  Diploma /Degree or certificate in relevant field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; including probing techniques
  • Previous experience in Data collection using tablets/ smart phones is an advantage.
  • Candidates should use good interview techniques including probing and protect respondent’s privacy, and be able to collect qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Candidates with good mobile data collection skills and knowledge of Ngakarimojong are highly preferred.

  • Conduct monthly longitudinal studies with selected youth across Kitgum, Lamwo, Pader and Omoro depending on the field office that s/he will be attached
  • Support design and implementation of assessments and other pre and post data collection actions and analysis.
  • Ensure quality control procedures and accuracy of entered data and comparing it with the existing filing system to make sure all records are consistent and aligned.

Thus, the CRS F2F plans to assess progress with the project objectives, community livelihoods strategies, and outcomes using the SenseMaker Methodology. SenseMaker combines the advantages of a qualitative database of self-signified stories with the value of large-scale statistical analysis, which enables the exploration of patterns and agency-wide metrics. This is crucial to support learning processes that contribute to innovation, and better project and program performance. SenseMaker also gives a voice to project participants at scale, which is proving to be very important for internal and external influence processes.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Attend 5 days’ SenseMaker training
  • Gain more insight on the use of SenseMaker as a tool to further understanding, planning, and measurement of resiliency
  • Attend 2 days’ pretest of sense maker tool
  • Actively participate actively in reviewing sense maker signification framework
  • Contact and coordinate with host staffs to reach beneficiaries
  • Collect accurate narratives keying them into iPads
  • Connect iPad at least once per day for data syncing
  • Ensure Ipad is safe and charged

Deliverables:

  • Field data collection for F2F and other CRS Uganda project beneficiaries using Sensemaker tools for analysis

About Study:

The USAID-funded Health Policy Plus Project (HP+) seeks to conduct an analysis to deepen understanding of the policy environment around GBV and develop strategies to accelerate policy implementation for improved family planning outcomes.The activity aims to identify and summarize gender-based violence (GBV) related policies in Uganda and examine how those policies are being implemented and monitored, and how they relate to family planning outcomes. Job Summary: The Research Assistant will support data collection for the Health Policy Plus (HP+) activity in Uganda. The main audience for the analysis is governments, civil society, and donors. The research assistants will be responsible for interviewing district-based key informant respondents, transcribing notes, and preparing comprehensive reports.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Participate in a data collector training in Kampala
  • Use key informant guide developed by HP+ to conduct 16-24 key informant interviews with district based respondents
  • The incumbent will transcribe interview notes
  • Prepare and submit analytical district reports
  • Collect district and relevant sub-county GBV guidelines, bye-laws, plans and budgets for analysis by the HP+ Team
  • Provide HP+ with any notes taken during the interviews, or documents provided by key informants as supplemental information.
  • Prepare report documenting the field work and data collection process.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Job Summary:
EGPAF Uganda Jobs : The Research Assistant will be supervised by the Study Coordinator. The Incumbent will work closely with the Study Coordinator and the SOAR Uganda team on IPAC study. He/she collects and processes research data in support of the IPAC study. He/she arranges and conducts field interviews as appropriate to the study, and records research data in accordance with specified protocol and procedures at the study sites.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
Travel to field sites to collect and record data as appropriate to the specific objectives of the study. Work closely with health care workers at the sites to identity potential study participants, assess eligibility and recruit them. Conduct informed consent processes with potential participants according to the study procedures. Develop interview schedules; identify potential subjects, arrange and conduct interviews in accordance with predetermined interview protocol, data collection procedures, and documentation standards. As appropriate to the specified position, code and verify data in accordance with the IPAC standard operating procedures, and enter data into the data collection paper tools. Ensure that data collected are accurate, complete. properly handled and stored in accordance with study SOPs and confidentiality stipulations. Obtains study informed consent and enrolls study participants. Conducts research interviews and enters study data into the electronic data capture system. Complies with protocols, ethics and regulations and adheres to good research practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A degree in Statistics, Population Studies Demography, Epidemiology and other related disciplines, including Social Sciences and Public Health. Prior experience in conducting research i.e. data collection and recording and conducting interviews Knowledge of MOH facility data collection registers and HMIS tools. Knowledge of and prior training in protection of human subjects in research and ethics regulations to ensure compliance with all local and international requirements, Ability to understand and apply specified field and/or laboratory research procedures and protocols. IDI Jobs 2017: The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.

About CDC / PEPFAR Project:

IDI received funding from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/PEPFAR, IDI is implementing comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the Kampala region of Uganda under the project: “Accelerating epidemic control in Kampala region of Uganda through scale up of evidence based and high impact interventions towards achievement of UNAIDS 90:90:90 targets.”

Job Summary: The Records Clerk will support entry of patient level data into electronic and paper-based systems to ensure establishment of high quality medical records at supported health facilities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Provide mentorship and training support to build capacity of facility teams to generate and maintain high quality patient data using standard HMIS tools.
  • Maintain up-to-date electronic medical records for all HIV/AIDS patients and generate real time on-site reports from facility databases.
  • The incumbent will also maintain high quality paper-based medical records including registers, HIV care cards, clinical notes, test results and medical reports for all patients in care.
  • Support safe storage of client medical records and promote patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Establish systems that allow for easy retrieval and archiving of patient files within facility records rooms.
  • Participate in facility performance monitoring initiatives and routine data use activities to continuously guide implementation of key project activities.
  • Works closely with health facility teams to conduct regular data quality assessments, and to implement and document data quality improvement activities.
  • Support facility data teams to compile and submit accurate HMIS and programmatic reports according to the set project, donor and Ministry of Health reporting timelines.
  • Perform any other duties as may reasonably be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) Records Clerk  job opportunity should preferably hold a Diploma in Information Science and Technology or Records Management
  • Up-to-date technical knowledge of the national Health Management Information System
  • Good communication, leadership, organization and management skills
  • Understands client confidentiality and exhibits high level of ethical conduct
  • Possess basic computer literacy including word processing, excel, internet and power point
  • Previous experience in using information systems including Uganda EMR and DHIS2
