NITA-U Jobs: The Management Trainee – OFC Engineer shall work in the Infrastructure Delivery Department and will provide supervision and support in the extension of the NBI/EGI to MDAs and Local Governments as well as the roll-out of IT Services and provide quality assurance of OFC implementations.

The Key Result Areas for the IT Services Officer will include the following:

  •  Engagement of MDAs and Local Governments to connect to the National Data Transmission Backbone Infrastructure(NBI)
  • Liaison and Management of Clients and Stakeholders on behalf of NITA-U in the implementation and rollout and delivery of NITA-U services to MDAs
  • Engagement of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Local Governments to sign the Memorandum of Understanding and Service Level Agreement for the provision of NITA-U Services through the NBI
  • Participation and support to the establishment of key Government IT initiatives/Projects;
  • Participate in the supervision and verification of works, installation, maintenance and management of the NBI
  • Perform Acceptance Testing of the OFC Implementation and facilitate the handover of newly installed sites to the Network Team
  • Participate in sensitization of stakeholders on the implementation of the NBI Project and the services delivered through the backbone.
  • Prepare periodic reports to track progress of implementation and extension of the NBI to MDAs and Local Governments across the Country

Qualifications and Competencies

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or Telecommunications Engineering and Electrical Engineering

About URA:

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Jobs: URA was established by the Uganda Revenue Authority Statute of 1991 and set up in September of the same year as a central body for assessment and collection of specified revenue, to administer and enforce the laws relating to such revenue and to provide for related matters. This statute incorporated all the laws that were in force then regarding tax collection. The new organization (URA) amalgamated the three tax administration departments that were responsible for all the taxes collected by the Central Government of Uganda.

Job Summary: The Officer IT Hardware will install and maintain the URA IT and Network Hardware Infrastructure as per the good industry practice and in accordance with the URA ICT policies to facilitate business operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Install, monitor and maintain hardware to ensure optimum performance as per ICT set standards and industry good practices.

  • Install hardware, rack mount hardware, LAN, power and endpoint equipment and such like as may be acquired by URA from time to time.
  • Carry out Preventive Maintenance (PM) of IT equipment assigned, test and verify to ensure optimum performance
  • Conduct Corrective Maintenance (CM) of various IT equipment including fault detection, diagnosis of various peripheral devices and endpoints.
  • Perform routine safety checks, including electrical tests, and maintain the appropriate records.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels for spares and fast moving parts based on analyzed usage and trends.

Keep an up-to-date CMDB of IT Equipment serviced and generate periodic management reports to facilitate decision making:

  • Update Configuration Items (Cis) as per CM guidelines
  • Update CMDB records and keep efficient stock control system both in the workshop and in the field
  • Ensure the safe disposal of obsolete equipment, used consumables and waste materials in line with recognized procedures and legal requirements
  • Provide information for use in planning and implementing changes to elements of the ICT infrastructure as required.

Provide support by Responding to user service calls and requests to facilitate business operations.

  • The incumbent will receive and analyze the service calls and requests
  • Determine and plan for the resources needed to resolve the call (s)
  • The Officer IT Hardware will conduct corrective measures to calls received on soft and hardware problems.
  • Raise awareness amongst staff and users on aspects such as data protection, IT security, health and safety policies
  • Generate a report and submit to line manager for further management.

Carry out pre-delivery and acceptance tests and Verifications on new hardware Equipment and assist in the identification of obsolete or irreparable Equipment for Boarding off.

  • Work closely with Stores Supervisor, vendor and any other stakeholder to plan the test/verification exercise
  • Carry out the test/verification exercise
  • Guide and report on the conformance of the product to specifications

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Possession of a professional certification (Cisco, A+ and N+)Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Background

The Government of Uganda has received credit from the World Bank towards implementation of the Competitive and Enterprise Development Project (CEDP). The project development objective (PDO) of CEDP is to improve the competitiveness of enterprises in Uganda through supporting reforms in priority productive and service sectors geared towards a better investment climate with particular focus on MSMEs. The 5 year project comprises of four major components and is implemented by seven agencies. However, the overall coordination of the Project will lies with the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) through a Project Coordination Unit (PCU).

The PSFU now invites suitably qualified individuals, with qualifications and experience as detailed below to apply for the position of Administrative Officer under the PCU. The assignment shall be for a period of two years subject to probation period of six months, and renewable subject to satisfactory performance.

Position: Administrative/Office Services Officer

Location: Kampala Uganda

Reports: The Project Coordinator, CEDP

Job Purpose and Scope:

The Administrative Officer will be in charge of all activities aimed at ensuring the efficient administration of the project. As office Superintendent, the administrative officer shall manage and oversee activities of the support staff and ensure that any matters are promptly and appropriately handled. The Officer will also ensure that office logistics are availed and functional at appropriate times and that the project environment is serene. S/he will carry out the following broad functions:

  • Handle day-to-day administrative operations of the project office
  • Supervise and handle support staff matters
  • Arrange meetings, workshops, travel and security clearances when required
  • Supervise the stores operations and ensure appropriate project logistics are available to the teams
  • Manage service contracts for the PCU
  • Supervise cleaning and maintenance of the project office

The specific assignment requirements include:

  • Handle the matters of general office administration and staff matters
  • Administer daily office operations and coordinate logistic requirements
  • Coordinate and organize meetings including venues, facilities, document preparation and catering
  • Organize travel by staff members
  • Support drafting, editing and finalising reports and correspondences
  • Ensure that all documents, correspondences are appropriately and securely filed meticulously.
  • Formulate and implement/administer Human Resource procedures, and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement performance management system for the Project support staff
  • Follow up all service contracts under the PCU to ensure that they are implemented in accordance with the terms therein.
  • Identify and rationalize career and training opportunities/needs for project staff.
  • Ensure all Human Resource data types and reports are continually kept up-to-date.
  • Keep an inventory of the equipment and goods for the project.
  • Liaise with local authorities for any licenses, permits, taxes or permission associated with office/ project activities
  • Support employee registration on the IFMIS
  • Organise project events
  • Undertake any other duties incidental to the above as may be assigned by management from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

  • An honour bachelors’ degree in Administrative & Secretarial Science, Social Sciences, development studies, Business Administration, Management or a related field. A postgraduate qualification in human resource management, project planning & management, business administration, stores/logistics management, secretarial is an added advantage. Be knowledgeable in modern Office systems and must be computer literate.
  • Be familiar with management and implementation of donor funded programmes and coordination with related programmes. Specific experience in the public sector is an added advantage.
  • Good communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Ability to plan, organize, solve problems, implement, monitor and evaluate tasks and to deliver outputs to meet required deadlines; ability to relate well with a multiplicity of stakeholders; self-motivated and team worker, and of demonstrable and unquestionable level of integrity.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent drafting, report writing and communication skills
  • Strong ability to organize and prioritize workloads, meet deadlines and targets.
  • Ability to work as a team leader/team member
