The Product Innovations Associate’s mandate is to own and assist the processes of Product Innovations for Uganda with the aim of increasing impact for our clients. Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

Department deliverable: The PI Associate will lead Uganda PI’s farmer field trials at specific sites focused on agriculture and non-agriculture trials and be fully responsible for its management and timely execution. This includes day to day execution of the field activities ensuring in research stations and farmer field trials.

Trial requisition :As the field executioner of farmer trials, s/he will be expected to prepare input requirements, and submit to manager for purchasing, repackaging, and final delivery.

 Casual management: The PI Associate on ad-hoc basis might lead a team of casual both for office and field activities and will make necessary arrangements before calendared activities take place in research sites in OAF working districts.

Planning: The PI Associate is responsible for the trial planning process with manger(s)and is expected to do the planning well advance to ensure smooth coordination among relevant stakeholders like procurement and logistics.

Mentoring and professional development: The PI Associate’s responsibility is to mentor his/her team members and is expected to build strong Key Deputies. S/he is expected to provide regular actionable feedback and create development plans for each direct report.

Training: The PI Associate needs to ensure that individual trial related proposals and training materials are already in place. S/he should be a good public speaker and well versed with agriculture-related knowledge. S/he will be expected to train staffs, enumerators and/or casuals if required for different running trials.


Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to:

 A bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or any related field.

 6 months to 1 year of strong work experience, including working with Agriculture Research Stations, conducting multi locations trials, or experience in managing crop trials.

 Demonstrated leadership experience at work, or outside of work. Examples of demonstrated leadership experience include managing a team and farmer groups.

 A pro-active worker with great planning skills.

 Humility & Maturity. PI Associate is a professional who combines strong leadership skills with maturity, patience, and a humble approach to service.

 Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint is preferred.

Agriculture Jobs In Uganda Today: Uganda Grows is seeking to recruit a self-motivated Resource and Production Manager to implement the strategic plan designed by the Board of Directors.

Our organization works closely with farmer groups to supply improved seed, value addition, marketing and extension services.

Key Responsibilities: Under the guidance of the Center Manager, the position is required to implement and enhance the organization’s agriculture programs to include the following:  ·

  • Develop demonstration gardens to act as avenues for farmer’s training and collaborate with other development organizations to deliver training to farmers  ·
  • Plan, organize, coordinate and conduct appropriate training for farmers at appropriate times ·
  • Liaise with farmer groups to determine technologies and inputs requirements and organize delivery of farm technologies and inputs to farmers at appropriate times.
  • Ensure that recoveries of inputs credit by farmers is timely, according to agreed upon schedules ·
  • Coordinate with farmer groups to plan and execute marketing of their produce to identified marketing points ·
  • Follow up project activities by making regular field visits to farmer group’s sites, while also providing technical guidance and advice to farmers on production management ·
  • Develop monthly work plans and write monthly reports giving details of progression of field activities ·
  • Assist to establish, collect, maintain and manage the farmer groups data base, providing details of production area under cultivation, harvest data, inputs distribution and recovery updates  ·
  • Any other related duties assigned by the Center

Manager Competences

  • Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills •
  • Ability to work independently, implementing work agenda with minimum supervision •
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of MS Office application •
  • High self-motivation and willingness to support others in multidisciplinary teams •
  • Knowledge and skill in farmer participatory learning •
  • Valid Motorcycle Riding Permit

Educational and experience requirement

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture or similar degree •
  • At least one year’s experience working with farming enterprises as salaried employee or as a graduate student

General information: The initial contract for the position is for a trial period of 6 months at which time the position is for one year: renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.
