JOB DESCRIPTION:
One Acre Fund Jobs: The role of the Uganda GR Specialist will focus on establishing a strong presence of OAF at the district and local levels. The holder of this role will also ensure the program’s regulatory compliance and keep the leadership informed of legal and policy developments at the local level that have implications for the program.  Thirdly, the project specialist will build and supervise the development of a competent and efficient Local Government Relations team.

ABOUT THE COMPANY
One Acre Fund provides loans to smallholder farmers so they can increase their harvests and thus increase their incomes. One Acre Fund offers high-quality inputs such as seed and fertilizer on credit, as well as training on modern farming techniques.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core:
 Initiate and manage strategic relationships at the district level: RDCs, the District Councils, the District Production Committees and regulators
 Manage and supervise the work of the Local Government relations team
 Draft OAF quarterly and annual reports, letters and concept notes
 Create and execute district and local government penetration plans for new areas during expansion.
 Support the program leadership to deal with issues and emergencies arising at the local level
 Organize and coordinate OAF field events attended by high level leaders – local and foreign MPs,
Ministers, development partners, etc.
Policy:
 Identify and propose new policy opportunities for the program at the local level
 Provide policy research support, in the form of briefs, as requested by the manager or program
leadership
 Bring to the attention of the department and leadership any changes in local policies or regulations
that affect OAF’s operations
 Represent OAF in district level meetings on government programs, and those organized by partners
Internal Support:
 Support departments to acquire and renew the necessary licenses and permits such as for seed and
fertilizer dealerships, OAF warehouses, import, etc.

CORE REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES:
 University degree in Law, Agriculture, Business Administration, Social Science or related fields.
 At least 3 years working experience – program based work preferable
 Communication skills: strong and confident, able to communicate both clearly and diplomatically, is pro-active in solving problems.
 Demonstrated computer skills in email, Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint)
 Language: good, persuasive communication in English: written and spoken
 Passionate about serving smallholder farmers

Specific roles may include:

  • Repayment Strategy Development This is one of our core activities, ensuring we collect 100% of loans form every client and group we work with and includes various projects and focuses.
  • Key Performance Analysis: Working through our data to detect trends and leading analysis sessions with our Field Leaders, developing key targets, plans and calendars throughout the season.
  • Incentive management: throughout the season, from conception through procurement and delivery.
  • Bonus structure: Support the development of Field Team bonus structure in conjunction with the wider Field Operations Leadership, collating data and analyzing trends in in order to roll out a sound and effective model.
  • Contingency Planning: Development of repayment contingency plans for the final leg of repayment every season to create a frameworks to handle potential scenarios.
  • Training Development: Leading role in the creation of tools and trainings to be delivered to our Field Team and our clients alike.
  • Your work will be fast-paced, exciting, and diverse. You will create lasting and noticeable impact for hundreds of thousands of smallholder farmers and you’ll have fun doing it.
  • You’ll work alongside our Field Team and our farmers alike, and travel widely within our organizational operation.
  • Most importantly, you’ll always be driving towards actionable impact – no empty reports, no mundane policy memos; just high-quality research, analysis, tools, and results.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong undergraduate background at top East African University or international University. Degrees in business, community development, or related fields preferred. Leadership experience within or outside of work.
  • 2-3 years working experience in rural or national development, especially in smallholder agriculture or rural economics.
  • Creative problem-solving and/or product development skills. Demanding professional work experience or successful entrepreneurial experience can be applicable.
  • Applicants are expected to have strong data analysis skills in Excel and other professional programs.
  • Humility and personal stability. JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Product Innovations Associate’s mandate is to own and assist the processes of Product Innovations for Uganda with the aim of increasing impact for our clients. Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

Department deliverable: The PI Associate will lead Uganda PI’s farmer field trials at specific sites focused on agriculture and non-agriculture trials and be fully responsible for its management and timely execution. This includes day to day execution of the field activities ensuring in research stations and farmer field trials.

Trial requisition :As the field executioner of farmer trials, s/he will be expected to prepare input requirements, and submit to manager for purchasing, repackaging, and final delivery.

 Casual management: The PI Associate on ad-hoc basis might lead a team of casual both for office and field activities and will make necessary arrangements before calendared activities take place in research sites in OAF working districts.

Planning: The PI Associate is responsible for the trial planning process with manger(s)and is expected to do the planning well advance to ensure smooth coordination among relevant stakeholders like procurement and logistics.

Mentoring and professional development: The PI Associate’s responsibility is to mentor his/her team members and is expected to build strong Key Deputies. S/he is expected to provide regular actionable feedback and create development plans for each direct report.

Training: The PI Associate needs to ensure that individual trial related proposals and training materials are already in place. S/he should be a good public speaker and well versed with agriculture-related knowledge. S/he will be expected to train staffs, enumerators and/or casuals if required for different running trials.

QUALIFICATIONS

Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to:

 A bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or any related field.

 6 months to 1 year of strong work experience, including working with Agriculture Research Stations, conducting multi locations trials, or experience in managing crop trials.

 Demonstrated leadership experience at work, or outside of work. Examples of demonstrated leadership experience include managing a team and farmer groups.

 A pro-active worker with great planning skills.

 Humility & Maturity. PI Associate is a professional who combines strong leadership skills with maturity, patience, and a humble approach to service.

 Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint is preferred.
