Send a Cow has been working in Uganda since its inception in 1988. It currently works in 42 districts from the North, Central and Eastern parts of Uganda targeting orphaned children, youth and smallholder farmers.

In partnership with CRS, Send a Cow Uganda is implementing a project in Gomba, Mityana, Luwero, Wakiso and Rakai Districts. There exist the following short term employment opportunities for which applications are being solicited:

Job Summary
Send A Cow Uganda Jobs: The Youth Project Officer is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating activities for Youth in the community. Based at the Mityana and Rakai field offices, the job requires the incumbent to plan, supervise and coordinate activities for the project aimed at reducing vulnerability for the youth and children by using multi-sectoral approach to improve social economic status of children and youth and their caregivers.

SCOPE
Send A Cow Uganda Jobs: The Youth Project Officer reports to the Project Coordinator and is responsible for administering and delivering project activities for youth in the community. The Youth Project Officer will consult with youth and organizations that represent youth to determine their needs and develop activities in response to those needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Technical and Training needs assessment
a) Assess and communicate the needs and requirements of youth in the community with a view to meeting their interests
b) Liaise and collaborate with organizations that represent youth to determine needs and interests of youth
c) Ensure a variety of sport, recreation, cultural and other activities are planned and implemented
d) Lead and participate in the development of youth organizations/ groups in the community bearing in mind gender, age, etc
e) Promote youth inclusion strategies and plans in existing community-based organizations
f) Evaluate the effectiveness of project activities

2. Plan and implement activities for youth
a) Schedule and supervise activities, facilities and volunteers as required
b) Participate in the recruitment and training of Field Officers/Agents
c) Encourage and inspire youth to participate in development activities in the region
d) Ensure that monthly and routine reports are submitted to your supervisor

3. Promote youth activities
a) Ensure that youth and youth organizations are aware of available activities
b) Coordinate a community relations campaign to promote youth programs
c) Arrange for advertising /promotion/ awareness of youth activities
d) Maintain contacts with local and regional organizations promoting youth empowerment
e) Monitor the use of equipment and facilities.

Desired qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
a) Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Education, Social Sciences or related qualifications
b) Having previous experience working with vulnerable children and/or youth will be an added advantage.
c) Have knowledge of the legislation, regulations, policies and procedures for involving youth in community activities
d) An understanding of the regional economic, cultural and political environment
e) Must have a Riding Permit and be able to ride a motor bike for a good part of the day.
