African Initiatives for Relief and Development (AIRD) is a non-governmental, non-political, non-religious and non-profit making organization with the main aim of protecting and seeking durable solutions for Refugees and IDPs in Africa in partnership with UNHCR the UN refugee agency.

Job Summary: The Receptionist / Office Clerk will provide support to the AIRD National Office by carrying out a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. The receptionist will be the first point of contact for the company and you will provide administrative support across the organization. The incumbent will also handle the flow of people through the organization and ensure that all receptionist responsibilities are completed accurately and delivered with high quality and in a timely manner.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Serve visitors by greeting, welcoming, directing and announcing them appropriately
  • The jobholder will answer, screen and forward any incoming phone calls while providing basic information when needed
  • Receive and sort daily mail/deliveries/couriers
  • Maintain security by following procedures and controlling access via the reception desk
  • Perform other clerical receptionist duties such as filing, photocopying, collating, faxing, reconciling stock taking and procurement of office supplies etc

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  

  • The ideal candidate for the Receptionist / Office Clerk job opportunity should hold a Diploma in a relevant field
  • Prior working experience in a front office handling receptionist responsibilities
  • Computer literacy i.e. proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Professional appearance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be resourceful and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise
  • Ability to organize, multi-task, prioritize and work under pressure
  • Fluency in writing and speaking English
