The IRC is currently working in over 25 countries around the world, addressing both the immediate and lifesaving needs of conflict-affected people in emergencies and the reconstruction needs of post-conflict societies. 

The IRC has been working in Uganda since 1998 supporting IDPs, refugees and local communities. IRC Uganda has it country office in Kampala and regional offices in Kitgum Moroto, and Yumbe. The current program portfolio includes health, protection and rule of law, women’s protection and empowerment, and economic recovery and development programming

 

 

Job Profile

The Gender officer will lead the and implementation of gender interventions and will work with the SRH to ensure the activities are well integrated. S/he will provide guidance and technical input where necessary, especially on gender analysis and impact assessment and wider gender mainstreaming.

The officer will ensure stakeholders’ participatory consultations take gender into consideration and that the needs of women and girls, men and boys are prioritized. S/he will act as a resource person in capacity building, knowledge sharing events and other relevant activities. This will include developing, reviewing and updating gender training modules to ensure they are of high standards and up to date. The position will develop and maintain relationships with district and settlement bodies coordinating joint efforts and training in consultation with the supervisor

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and support  women led community SRH monitor committees-5 committees covening monthly
  • Support women and men to conduct community SRH awareness campaigns/education sessions
  • Lead a gender training for IRC staff to create awareness on gender concepts, neutrality and transformation to ensure they are being responsive to the specific needs of women and girls, men and boys
  • Conduct a gender mainstreaming training for IRC staff and partners including development of relevant tools
  • Implement recommendations of the gender analysis-at least 2 key recommendations
  • Support Adolescent girls’ through friendly discussions to safely access SRH services
  • Coordinate and act as the liaison between the consultant and the IRC at field level for a successful comprehensive gender analysis exercise
  • Conduct dialogues with partners on SRH, FP and DV to foster positive behavioral and attitude change
  • Collaborate with the SRH team to conduct community dialogues on SRHR/FP and gender norms with women, girls, youth, men, PSNs, PWDs
  • Collaborate with the MEAL team to conduct a gender impact assessment at the end of the project
  • Provide reviews to reproduction of SRH/FP IEC materials to ensure they are gender sensitive and responsive
  • Map community structures that have key role in SRHand gender related behaviour change – CBOs, Youth groups, women’s groups, PSN groups, community & religious leaders
  • Establish and support  women led community SRH monitor committees-5 committees covening monthly
  • Work closely with the MEAL team to ensure gender result areas are included in all M&E processes
  • Submit progress reports
  • Represent IRC at different forums and liaise with gender focal points in other institutions for events where information on gender mainstreaming may be required.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications for IRC Uganda Jobs 2021

  • University degree in Social Sciences: Social Work, Gender/Women Studies, Public Health, or other appropriate fields
  • At least 4 years’ experience in the field of Gender and Gender-based violence prevention in an emergency setting
  •  Excellent communication and analytical skills and ability to present ideas effectively, in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and without judgment; good diplomatic and persuasion skills.
  •  Ability to use good judgment when making decisions and to take accountability for decisions made.
  •  Emotional maturity and stability to resolve conflicts in non-violent way and maintain appropriate boundaries.
  •  Good interpersonal skills including ability to gain trust and build relationships.
  •  Ability to handle multiple tasks; proven self-initiative and problem solving abilities.
  •  Good computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and Power Point.
  • Be able to work in a stressful setting and adapt quickly to changing environments.
