Airtel was launched in Uganda in June 2010 and is Uganda’s most innovative mobile phone operator, which has introduced many “firsts” in the telecommunications sector. As a mobile operator airtel introduced affordable communication products and services that have transformed millions of Ugandans and businesses.

History of the airtel in Uganda;

CELTEL Uganda was the first Telecommunication Company in Uganda that was introduced in 1995 and transformed telephony by connecting people with the use of a mobile phone. In July 2007, CELTEL Uganda changed its brand name to ZAIN Uganda that was eventually changed to Airtel Uganda in 2010 thus joining a family of over 361 million customers across its operations at the end of May 2016. In May 2013, Airtel Uganda achieved a great success story having acquired Warid Telecom and growing to a family of over 8.9 Million customers and being the 2nd largerst telecom in Uganda.

 

 

Job Profile

Responsible for procuring quality, cost-efficient goods and services that meet internal customer requirements and specifications, in a timely manner to support efficient business operations.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

· Develop and implement category plans for local procurement in assigned category area.

· Work with Group Supply Chain for Strategic Networks Procurements.

· Negotiate supply contracts and achieve savings on total purchases.

· Generate and analyse excel data sets for POs, E-sourcing and Contract Management System (CMS) for procurement trends and closure of audit gaps

· Ensure all contracts are processed through CMS (Contract Management Systems)

· Monitor supplier performance and carry out regular appraisals as per the Supply Chain Management guidelines

· Maintain communication with Group Category Manager to ensure implementation of Group initiatives and effective management of suppliers under Group Framework Agreements

· Monitor compliance to FDOA procedures

· Conduct supplier visits to assess capacity, manufacturing and/or production procedures

· Ensure Governance meetings are held for strategic suppliers and provide feedback

· Ensure risk management is done as per audit recommendations.

· Maintain communication with suppliers and build relations

· Support the supplier selection process in accordance with Supply Chain Management guidelines

· Maximize the e- sourcing portal and ensure all sourcing is carried out in e-sourcing.

· Issue PO’s to approved suppliers according to the contracts

· Track and monitor contract status

· Ensure contracts are renewed before expiry and SLA’s signed

· Carry out annual PPEs as mandated by the sourcing policy

· Receive and process users’ requisitions for goods and services in accordance with FDOA guidelines.

· Ensure the efficient processing and issue of purchase orders according to the SLAs

· Record keeping

· Provide weekly and monthly reports of POs issued and savings achieved

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

· Degree in Procurement and Supply chain or business-related field

· Excellent analytical skills especially in excel. Proficiency in handling large excel data sets with the ability to analyse and summarise reports

· Professional procurement qualification such as CIPS

· 2 years’ practical experience in a procurement function

· Accustomed to working in fast-moving and changing environments and to deadlines.

· Strong ethics, hands-on approach

· Able to operate in a performance-driven environment

· Possess very good interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple requests from several users and be supportive on all in a timely manner

· Business focused

· Planning and organisation skills

· Attention to detail and excellent follow-through

· Good negotiations skills

· Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

· Understanding of the principles of category Management

· Self-motivated

· Problem-solving skills

· Strong ethics, hands-on approach

· Able to operate in a performance-driven environment
