Job Profile:

The Marketing and Operations Officer (MO) will provide oversight in the smooth running of the eleven community kitchens as well as the plastic recycling unit (hereafter known as the entities). In liaison with the Senior Initiative Manager/Renewable Energy Specialist and the relevant stakeholders, the MO will streamline or put in place systems for ensuring commercial viability of the entities, including the identification of a suitable private sector individual/company to run the entities at a later stage.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

Responsibility #1: Oversight of community kitchen and plastic upcycling unit operations (25%)
• The MO will be responsible for ensuring that the day to-day operations at the entities are running smoothly.
• The MO will be responsible for working out a reasonable but workable duty roster for the volunteers at the entities, and to ensure that its followed.
• The MO will ensure that both the Plastic unit and the community kitchens are operating at full capacity as per the CAMP+ project design.
• The MO will ensure cleanliness and tidiness at the entities, always.

• In liaison with the Senior Initiative manager, the MO will identify and enforce safety measures at all entities.

Responsibility #2: Streamlining management of the entities (30%)
• Through observation and feedback from both volunteers, users and visitors, the MO will be expected to make the necessary adjustments in the operational and management systems at the entities.
• Together with the volunteers, the MO is expected to identify sources of plastics, and establish a sustainable collection system, ensuring that the plastic recycling plant always has an adequate supply of all required types of plastics.
• The MO will work hand in hand with the Senior Initiative Manager, to identify and implement the most suitable system for handling cash from sales, including ensuring proper record keeping of the same.
• The MO will work with the Senior Initiative Manager to re-define the role of the community kitchen management committees and engage them (committees) on the same.
• The MO will work hand in hand with the Senior Initiative Manager to propose and put in place a more suitable management structure for the plastic recycling unit.
• At an appropriate time, the MO will support the Senior Initiative Manager to identify and contract private individuals or companies, to run the entities on behalf of CARE.

Responsibility #3: Marketing of products and services (25%)
• The MO will work hand in hand with the Senior Initiative Manager to secure market for products from the plastic recycling unit, within and beyond Kyangwali refugee settlement. This will include design of the necessary marketing tools if need be.
• The MO will implement promotional activities for the community kitchen services within neighbouring communities, so as to ensure optimum use as per CAMP+ project design.
• The MO in liaison with the Senior Initiative Manager will identify and implement any other creative but sustainable ways of attracting more users to the community kitchens.
• The MO will make use of settlement level stakeholder platforms and any other relevant avenues to market the products and services from the entities.

Responsibility #4: Learning and documentation (10%)
• The MO will be required to download and submit data from the community kitchens as will be guided by the Senior Initiative Manager.
• The MO will be required to document lessons and emerging workable systems, from undertaking responsibilities #1-3.
• With support from the Senior Initiative Manager, the MO will seek organizations and/or private sector companies with similar interventions, for purposes of improving learning and promoting synergies.
• The MO will support the Senior Initiative Manager to prepare for presentation of the CAMP+ concept at national and international platforms.

Responsibility #5: Promote Gender Equity, Diversity and Safeguarding Practices (5%)
• Practice a behaviour consistent with CARE core values and promote gender equity and diversity goals.
• Support the adherence to CARE Safeguarding policies and procedures by all project staff (including volunteers and management committees) and partners.
• Ensure that he/she and project partners are familiar with the following organizational policies and procedures and can identify when needed how these may have been breached, The Care International Safeguarding policy, Protection from Sexual Harassment, Exploitation and Abuse and Child Abuse, The anti-discrimination and harassment policy, The code of conduct and the organizations values.

Responsibility #6: Any other duties assigned from time to time (5%)
Any other duties incidental to the role or assigned by supervisor.

Level of authority
The Marketing and Operations Officer will formally report to the Initiative Manager. She/he has autonomy to organize his/her day-to-day work based on the agreed monthly work plans. She/he has no authority to enter into formal partnership agreements, nor any formal financial authority, apart from standard expenses for day-to-day activities. The MO is responsible for the safety and custody of organization assets in their possession. Travel to locations outside project areas should be done and coordinated with the knowledge of the Initiative Manager.
Relationships and collaboration.
The MO will work as a process-oriented support person to the CAMP+ to achieve the objectives of the interventions.
Teamwork is therefore a key element of the position.

All CARE staff must adhere to and model CARE’s core values, commitment to gender equity, diversity, and safeguarding policies, as well as promote the various complaints, feedback, and reporting mechanisms.
Work conditions
The position is based in Kyangwali field office with frequent movements to Arua Sub – Office as required for meetings, training events, etc.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications for CARE International Uganda Jobs 2021

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Economics, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or Natural Resources from a reputable institution.
• At least 3 years’ demonstrable experience in sales and marketing of energy or plastic products is “a MUST”.
• A clear understanding of how business or private sector operates is “a MUST”. Personal experience in running a business will be an added advantage.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills (both written and spoken).
• Ability to creatively manoeuvre through multiple settlement level structures and authorities to get things done.
• Good strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving kills.
• Ability to ride a motorcycle, and possession of a valid riding permit is “a MUST”.

Desired:
• Female candidates with the required qualifications and experience.
• Candidates who have good understanding of humanitarian setting will be prioritized.
