The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1933. IRC works in 28 countries providing relief, protection, and resettlement assistance to refugees and displaced populations.  IRC was registered in Uganda in mid-1998 and implements rehabilitation activities in the sectors of Child and Youth Protection and Development, Economic Recovery and Development, Health and Women Protection and Empowerment. IRC Uganda has a head office in Kampala with field offices in Kitgum, Moroto, Yumbe, Imvepi, Kyaka II and Kiryandongo.

 

 

Job Summary

Fleet Assistant will report to the Transport Officer and will be responsible for ensuring the coordination of staff movement, allocation of vehicles and Motorcycles for field movements, overall care and maintenance of Vehicles, Motorcycles and Generators whilst ensuring the security/ safety of the materials and maintaining audit-compliant records.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Transport Officer and the Supply Chain Manager to design a suitably staffed and equipped transport function to support the IRC’s vehicle operations and policies.
  • Implement and direct IRC standard Vehicle policies and procedures, with particular attention to safety and security issues.
  • Manage and be accountable for requested and allocated fuel for Vehicles, Motorcycles and generators by ensuring accurate consumptions.
  • Support the Transport Officer to evaluate, manage and monitor all drivers.
  • Consolidate Weekly Movement Plans and share with all Yumbe Staff every Friday.
  • Ensure the correct and timely routine maintenance and repair of IRC vehicles and generators as well as keep records regarding Maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure that all vehicles carry the required on-board documentation and that all documents are kept current (including insurance).
  • Inspect and record condition of vehicles, by maintaining daily checklists file and ensuring that Vehicle logbooks are accurately filled.
  • Carry out regular training to all drivers on basic vehicle mechanic skills, record keeping, daily vehicle inspection, drills on safety driving, defensive driving, etc.
  • Ensure all vehicles are properly cleaned on a daily basis.
  • Prepare reconciliations for fuel consumed on a weekly basis before fuel replenishment is done.
  • Ensure that all vehicles are secure when not in use.
  • Be familiar with local regulations / laws.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications for IRC Uganda Jobs 2021

  • Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or any other related field.  
  • Knowledge of generic Supply Chain management systems and forms
  • At least 2 years of experience working as a Fleet Assistant in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Competent in spoken and written English.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Competent in computer use and maintenance.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
  • Must Possess a valid driving permit with a clean driving record.
