Job Summary:

Reporting directly to the Child Protection Officer, the Child Protection Assistant will responsible for monitoring the welfare of Un Accompanied Minors (UAMs) / Separated Children (SC) and other children at risk by carrying out home visits and following up and document cases with different stake holders and providing psychosocial support to UAMS/SC and other children at risk.  The purpose of this post is to provide day to day management of prevention activities and other related activities in Kyangwali Refugee settlement under the supervision of the Child Protection officer.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical management of the Best Interests Procedures in the settlement including reviewing of BIAs and BIDs shared by case workers before submission and ensuring adherence inter agency and UNHCR Guidelines on Assessing and Determining the Best Interests of the Child;
  • Plan, coordinate and actively participate in the BID panels in collaboration with protection partners and CP government actors.
  • Ensure that mechanisms are put in place for the implementation of BID decisions and monitor the implementation of BID decisions by case workers through weekly case supervision for all assigned case workers and ensure quality case management services as per SOPs.
  • Ensure CP Case Management targets assigned are strictly followed by providing on job mentoring to case workers to achieve targets.
  • Review all cases of assigned case workers and ensure all cases are completed with quality before uploading in Prog V4 and hard files
  • Initiate and participate in case conferences along with CP Officer
  • Ensure all case plans are assisted with required support (Direct service provision e.g material support, referral to other service providers)
  • Provide technical guidance to conduct alternative care placements for the UAMs and assess their needs.
  • Identify potential caregivers’ e.g. foster families for placement of UAMs and SC using stipulated procedures throughout the project lifespan.
  • Sensitize the parents/caregivers on their roles and responsibilities on early child development & protection throughout the project lifespan.
  • Conduct home visits to foster care homes and assess needs, ascertain the living conditions of the UAMs/SC and provide ongoing support to families, foster and alternative care systems.
  • Facilitate foster parents’ trainings on Child rights and general protection.
  • Conduct daily field visits to support child protection case workers and child protection community structures, mentoring through technical back-stopping and to train duty bearers throughout the project lifespan.
  • Work with Child Protection Community Based Structures (CBCPCs), community leaders, caregivers/parents to promote child protection in homes and in the community.
  • Ensure regular communication with the CP Officer and manager for updates on achievements and challenges

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in social work, Social Sciences, Community Psychology, Adult and Community Education and Development studies.
  • One year of experience in working on Child Protection issues with an INGO.
  • Fluency in Swahili and ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid license (Class A) is an added advantage.
