About the Company:

Background:

The IRC began programming in northern Uganda in 1998 in response to mass displacement and devastation wrought by the Lord’s Resistance Army. The IRC now works in 12 districts in Uganda, addressing both immediate and long-term needs of conflict-affected people.

Main Purpose of Job:

The Finance Volunteer will be a key member of the Yumbe Field site team and will contribute towards achieving the field’s finance objectives. Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the Finance Volunteer will collaborate with other finance department members.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare payment cover sheets with correct dimensions and charge codes.
  • Create invoice and payment journals for review with the support of the Finance Assistant.
  • Ensure Invoice/Payment Journals and Proofs of Payment are merged onto payment documents.
  • Support in Yo! Payment name verifications and uploading payments.
  • Reference payment documents.
  • Digitally file payment documents and label hard copy document files.
  • Scan hard copy documents for archiving.
  • Maintain an efficient filing system for the field office documents, ensuring all vouchers are filed monthly.
  • Ensure IRC policies and procedures are respected in all cash transactions.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Systems Compliance and Improvement:

  • Adhere to IRC-Uganda specific finance, logistics, IT, security, communications, and human resource/administration policies and procedures.
  • Follow any new procedures and guidelines designated in circulars from the Country Director.
  • Report any violations of the IRC Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Code of Conduct to the Country Director. Reporting violations is an obligation for all staff members.
  • Assist in preventing the occurrence of sexual abuse and exploitation of beneficiaries by IRC and other humanitarian workers.

Standards for Professional Conduct:

The IRC and IRC workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in the IRC Way – Standards for Professional Conduct, which include Integrity, Service, Accountability, and Equality. IRC operates and enforces policies on Beneficiary Protection from Exploitation and Abuse, Child Safeguarding, Anti-Workplace Harassment, Fiscal Integrity, and Anti-Retaliation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A degree or equivalent in Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce, or Finance.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • High level of integrity.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel).
  • Ability to function comfortably in a loosely structured but complex work environment, working and prioritizing multiple tasks.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English with program staff.
  • Good supervisory, time management, and interpersonal skills.
