Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, and PATH, funded by the Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiative, is embarking on the “Post-Phase II Yellow Fever Preventive Mass Vaccination Campaign Coverage Survey in Uganda (Post-phase II YFPMVCCS)”. This survey aims to assess the performance, reach, and equity of the yellow fever mass vaccination campaign.

MakSPH is seeking Field Supervisors to oversee and support data collection activities in six regions: Ankole, South Buganda, North Buganda, Kampala, Teso, and Karamoja.

Position: Field Supervisors (18 positions)
Reports to: Study Coordinator

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead, supervise, and support Research Assistants within assigned responsibilities.
  • Assist in training Research Assistants, including pre-test data collection activities.
  • Conduct district entry and obtain permission for Research Assistants to proceed to enumeration areas (EAs).
  • Support identification of EAs, obtain community entry permission, and conduct household sampling.
  • Ensure safe custody of all collected data and adhere to quality control procedures.
  • Oversee field data collection, ensure data integrity, and submit data to the designated server.
  • Hold daily debrief meetings with Research Assistants and address any challenges.
  • Prepare and manage data collection forms, devices, supplies, and equipment.
  • Submit daily field summary reports to the Study Coordinator.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Study Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with at least 2 years of field working experience in similar research activities. A Master’s degree is advantageous.
  • Expertise in community engagement, mapping, listing, sampling, and conducting household interviews.
  • Ability to collect, transcribe, and code qualitative data.
  • Valid certificate in Good Clinical Practice and/or Human Subject Research.
  • Willingness to work beyond usual office hours and travel to assigned field sites.
  • Strong team management and supervision skills.
