Description: As an Attorney at Redeem International, you will advocate for justice by representing victims in criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings. You will collaborate closely with law enforcement to bolster their capacity in protecting vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop intervention strategies in collaboration with the team.
- Identify and advise potential clients on legal matters.
- Assist Redeem and law enforcement in evidence collection efforts.
- Collaborate with social workers to ensure trauma-informed legal proceedings.
- Review and analyze casework, including investigative reports, witness statements, and evidence.
- Present cases for prosecution in court.
- Conduct thorough legal research, draft legal documents, and provide legal advice to state attorneys.
- Represent clients in court for civil and criminal cases, estate administration, and land documentation.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Required: Law degree, completed Legal Practice Course (LDC), current practicing certificate.
- Required: Minimum 5 years of active civil or criminal litigation experience.
- Preferred: Experience similar to Redeem’s casework, including roles as a prosecutor or state attorney and familiarity with Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) actors.
- Skills:
- Required: Fluent in English, Runyoro, and Runyakitara (written & oral).
- Required: Proficiency in computer applications (word processing, email, etc.).
- Required: Strong legal research, analysis, writing, and advocacy skills.
- Preferred: Profound understanding of Ugandan law and legal procedures.
- Preferred: Familiarity with Google Business Suite and project management tools.
- Preferred: Public speaking or teaching skills.
