Job Description: The successful candidate will join CfA’s Communities team, spearheading CfA’s ecosystem/network building and management. You will serve as the champion for all CfA’s Communities’ networks, driving engagement and accelerating the growth of CfA’s networks of changemakers across the continent by organizing offline and online community-related projects and other activities, including training and events. You will also manage Communities’ projects, such as providing fellowship opportunities to Communities’ members and ensuring that fellowship deliverables and deadlines are met. This role involves conceptualizing and producing data-driven journalism projects, mentoring journalists, providing input on story plans, and assisting with the publication/syndication of CfA’s content with media partners.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of all online and offline Communities initiatives, including meetups, online workshops, forums, conferences, and events.
  • Lead the expansion and development of new Communities initiatives aligned with CfA’s product roadmap.
  • Oversee and support a distributed team of Communities coordinators.
  • Oversee the engagement and relationship of Communities coordinators with their communities.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of projects and partnerships based on work plans and CfA strategic objectives.
  • Manage multiple project deliverables, ensuring adherence to quality benchmarks and budgets.
  • Explore and evaluate new partnerships and initiatives to increase CfA’s Communities footprint in Africa.
  • Track impact stories sparked by Communities’ initiatives and share insights with internal teams.
  • Maintain and foster a database of community influencers and high-impact leaders.
  • Coordinate the syndication/publication of CfA content with media partners.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience: Required:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in programme and project management, with at least 3 years involving community management and engagement.
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder communications projects within NGOs/CSOs, media, or tech/startup sectors.
  • Experience in designing and organizing international events/conferences/webinars.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills in building and growing an effective remote or distributed team.
  • Experience forming and managing partnerships with media institutions, international organizations, or technology players.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Understanding of donor funding and reporting requirements.
  • High level of analytical skills and ability to develop innovative solutions.
  • Proficiency in digital-first workplace tools such as Google Workplace, Slack, and Trello.
  • Strong research and writing skills in a non-academic, accessible manner.
  • Strong administrative skills and precision in handling budgets and contracts.
  • Empathetic communication and listening skills, with top-notch cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • True team player, enjoying working with a highly collaborative team                                                                                                                                                      Preferred:
  • Proven record of building and launching projects from the ground up.
  • Experience promoting impactful relationships through community programs.
  • Experience producing toolkits and public awareness materials in various formats.
  • Understanding of issues related to the intersection of gender, tech, data, investigation, and journalism.
  • Deep understanding of the technology and media ecosystem in Africa.
  • Passion for media, data storytelling, and technology, with an interest in civic technology and digital journalism.
