The Aids Support Organisation (TASO) Profile:
The AIDS Support Organization (TASO Uganda), was founded to contribute to a process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the quality of life of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection and disease. TASO is implementing various projects funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPF AR) through the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Global Fund in partnership with various Implementing Partners to support the Government of Uganda accelerate epidemic control and the attainment of the UNAIDS 95 95 95 goals.
Job Summary:
The Enrolled Pediatric Nurse shall triage clients, take vital measurements, conduct nutritional assessment, provide comprehensive nursing, counseling and psychosocial support services to pediatric clients and their caregivers.
Roles and responsibilities:
Key Outputs
- Nursing/medical care that meets national and international standards provided to children and adolescents at the COE
- Home-based medical, psychosocial support services provided
- HIV index testing for the eligible individuals ensured
- Well documented vital observations and counselling done
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide standard nursing care to children and adolescents receiving care at the COE
- Screen and triage clients
- Ensure vital observations are taken and well documented
- Conduct routine health talks to both caregivers and older children
- Provide psychosocial support services at both facility and community
- Work with peers/community volunteers to conduct community-based HIV testing to Increase pediatric case identification
- Provide nutritional support
- Identify needy individuals for additional support such as transport or other needs
Qualifications
Minimum Academic Qualifications
- Enrolment Certificate in Comprehensive Nursing or Enrolment Certificate in Nursing from a recognized training institution; with valid licensure with Uganda Nurses and Midwives council.
- A Diploma in Nursing practices will be an added advantage.
Required Experience and Exposure
- Minimum of one year’s experience working in an HIV setting
- Ability to speak Runyoro and Luo is essential
- Additional Training Required
- Certificate in Child and Adolescent Counselling is required
- Certificate in HIV Counselling/Certificate in Basic HIV/TB/ART management is desired
- Certificate in nutrition assessment and counselling is desired
