Job Title: Lecturer in Civil Engineering

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. MSc in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Field Engineering, or Construction Engineering from a recognized institution.
  2. BSc in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Building Engineering, or Environmental Engineering from a recognized institution.
  3. Strong knowledge in at least three of the following areas: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Field Engineering, Highway Engineering, with a broad subject background suitable for teaching.
  4. University teaching experience at the rank of Assistant Lecturer for a minimum of two years or Tutorial Assistant for at least three years.
  5. At least one scholarly article/publication or participation in one research project/paper.
  6. Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, work to strict deadlines, teach, and supervise academic work.
  7. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with a proven record of high-quality research and publications in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
  8. Commitment to academic research, high-quality teaching, fostering a positive learning environment, and continuous professional development.
  9. Must be a mature and committed Christian.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses as assigned by the Head of Department.
  2. Conduct research and produce publications aligned with personal objectives.
  3. Seek research funding from within and outside the University.
  4. Engage with scholarly and professional communities.
  5. Supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
  6. Contribute to the development and implementation of curricula in Civil Engineering disciplines.
  7. Develop learning materials, syllabuses, and maintain student records.
  8. Participate in departmental and faculty seminars to share research outcomes and foster collaboration.
  9. Assist in exam administration and marking.
  10. Provide pastoral care and support to students following UCU code of conduct.
  11. Assist in the administration of departmental programs and activities.
  12. Participate in departmental, faculty, or UCU-wide committees as required.
  13. Engage in continuing professional development.
  14. Promote UCU policies, including integrating faith in teaching and learning.
  15. Perform other official duties assigned by the Supervisor.
