Job Purpose:
The Officer, Field Monitoring will be responsible for collecting monitoring data for the Safe Water program in Uganda. This role involves interacting with local community members to collect data that informs program decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Data Collection and Quality:
    • Accurately and timely collect Safe Water evaluation data through questionnaire administration, sample collection, and observations.
    • Participate in bench-testing of electronic instruments for training and instrument improvement.
    • Support the flow of information from the field to Program Leadership using “soft feedback” tools.
    • Participate in data collection training for field staff.
    • Support data flow from the field to the office following data flow protocols.
  2. People Management:
    • Provide mentorship to new staff involved in Safe Water data collection activities.
    • Shadow new staff during their initial days in the field.
  3. Stakeholder Relationship:
    • Maintain positive relations with local stakeholders, including government officials and community members.
  4. Financial Management:
    • Manage financial payments and expenditures accurately in the field and office to contribute to the organization’s cost-efficiency.
  5. Communication:
    • Share insightful feedback with program leads based on field observations.
    • Develop and disseminate adoption monitoring reports with program teams at the office level.
  6. Other:
    • Support data collection needs from other programs.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by MLE leadership.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Diploma in a social science discipline with a bias on statistics or research applications, community work, project management, or equivalent.
  • Good language skills in English and Luganda/Lugisu/Japathola, both spoken and written.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a research environment, administering surveys, or working with communities/social enterprises/NGOs.
  • Motorcycle riding skills or willingness to learn.
  • Experience using electronic data collection platforms, specifically Open Data Kit (ODK) and SurveyCTO.
  • High level of integrity and stewardship.
  • Ability to work in rural community settings.
  • Good communication and basic leadership skills.
  • Good computer skills.

Working Conditions:
Must be flexible and able to travel to remote areas mainly using motorcycles where the Safe Water program operates.

The position will be based in Jinja.
