Job Opportunity: Compliance Manager

Reporting to: Head of Compliance

Job Purpose: The Compliance Manager, reporting to the Head of Compliance, will be responsible for ensuring that the Bank adheres to all applicable regulations and laws by reviewing and examining the Bank’s processes and procedures.

Location: Kampala

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Research, assess, and monitor new developments in bank-related legislation and regulatory sphere.
  2. Maintain an updated inventory of all laws, regulations, and guidelines affecting the Bank.
  3. Conduct gap analysis on new and existing legislation.
  4. Coordinate the review of Bank policies, procedures, processes, and circulars.
  5. Liaise with business units to oversee compliance procedures and offer regulatory compliance risk management advice.
  6. Monitor staff on possible regulatory breaches to avoid penalties.
  7. Monitor compliance with corporate governance standards and reporting.
  8. Monitor and report on compliance with funders’ requirements.
  9. Monitor compliance on contracts, MOUs, and agreements.
  10. Monitor market abuse as a theme of compliance.
  11. Monitor compliance with regulatory and statutory reporting timelines.
  12. Monitor relevant global legislation affecting the Bank’s operations (e.g., Fatca, GDPR).

Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies Required:

  • LLB or Business Degree with a Diploma in Law or certification in regulatory compliance.
  • Minimum three years of experience in financial services or working in a regulated environment.
  • Stakeholder management skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong research skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Confidentiality and sound business judgment.
  • Objective thinking.
