Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Head, Corporate Affairs and Public Relations, the Sustainability Manager will be responsible for crafting and executing our sustainability strategy and agenda, aligning with dfcu’s commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic sustainability. The Sustainability Manager will drive initiatives that enhance our sustainability performance, engage stakeholders, and contribute to the overall reputation and success of dfcu Bank.

Location: Kampala

Key Accountabilities:

Develop and Implement Sustainability Strategy:

  • Craft a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with dfcu Bank’s mission, values, and business goals.
  • Establish short-term and long-term sustainability objectives, metrics, and KPIs.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

  • Act as the primary liaison for sustainability matters within dfcu Bank, engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute communication plans to promote sustainability initiatives and achievements.

Program Management and Coordination:

  • Lead and coordinate sustainability projects and programs across various departments.
  • Identify and secure partnerships with NGOs, governmental bodies, and other relevant organizations to advance sustainability goals.

Research and Analysis:

  • Stay updated on sustainability trends, regulations, governance, and best practices in the banking sector.
  • Conduct assessments and audits to evaluate dfcu Bank’s environmental and social impact.

Training and Advocacy:

  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on sustainability principles and practices.
  • Foster a culture of sustainability within the organization through advocacy and engagement activities.

Reporting and Compliance:

  • Prepare comprehensive sustainability reports for internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant sustainability standards, certifications, and legal requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Sustainability, Business, Communications, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sustainability management, preferably within the financial services sector.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful sustainability strategies.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and inspire stakeholders at all levels.
  • In-depth knowledge of sustainability trends, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and translate findings into actionable strategies.
  • Passion for sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
