Type of Contract: Fixed Contract, 1 Year Renewable

With field programs in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), CTPH is a leader in One Health and sustainable development, implementing integrated human, animal, and environmental health approaches.

Main Programmatic Areas

  1. Wildlife Conservation including wildlife health
  2. Community Health with a focus on One Health
  3. Alternative Livelihoods for communities near protected conservation areas, including sustainable coffee farming through CTPH’s social enterprise, Gorilla Conservation Coffee (www.gccoffee.org)

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation of CTPH community field programs in collaboration with supervisors and team members.
  • Oversee and guide CTPH community volunteer cadres.
  • Manage/recruit community volunteers, including Human and Gorilla Conflict Resolution Teams (HUGOs-Gorilla Guardians) and Community Wildlife Scouts.
  • Participate in recruiting Village Health and Conservation Teams (VHCTs) with the Ministry of Health (MOH).
  • Supervise VHCTs in behavior change communication, data collection, and family planning.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation of VHCT-collected data, linking them to health centers for referrals and medical supplies.
  • Train VHCTs to deliver community health services and conservation education.
  • Train Human and Gorilla Conflict Resolution Teams and other community resource persons.
  • Engage Reformed Poachers in alternative livelihoods.
  • Support VHCTs and HUGOs in creating income-generating projects and establishing Village Saving and Loan Associations (VSLAs).
  • Attend VHCT and HUGO VSLA meetings, providing support in monitoring and evaluation through data collection, home visits, and quarterly meetings.
  • Work with the CTPH Veterinary team to support Community Animal Health Workers.
  • Implement conservation education programs in schools.
  • Participate in One Health research to support CTPH field programs.
  • Provide logistical and mentoring support to CTPH visitors in the field.
  • Clearly communicate CTPH vision, mission, and approach to all stakeholders.
  • Implement activities based on project work plans and budgets.
  • Serve as a link between the community, local partners, and CTPH regarding conservation, community health, and livelihoods improvement.
  • Support other CTPH/GCCoffee projects and programs as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Community Development, Social Work, Conservation, or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of conservation and protected area management (advantageous).
  • Knowledge of public health (advantageous).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government and NGOs.
  • Experience working with local communities.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
