With a vision of a youthful generation engaged in Climate Resilient Action for a sustainable ecosystem, CSYAN mobilizes and capacitates youth in climate-resilient agriculture and engages in climate change policy advocacy.

About SDG Village II: CSYAN, in partnership with SDG World (Denmark), is implementing SDG World Village II funded by Civil Society in Development (CISU). This project aims to strengthen the community’s ability to respond to climate change effects by providing knowledge, tools, networks, empowerment, and advocacy support for sustainable agricultural and land-use practices in peri-urban communities around Mpanga forest in the Mpigi district, Uganda.

Job Summary: The Assistant Agronomist will provide crop extension services to Project beneficiaries under the “SDG Village part II – Laying the Groundwork” project in Mpigi district.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Compile and submit Monthly work plan and report.
  • Train Project beneficiaries in good agronomic practices (GAPs).
  • Demonstrate appropriate methods and technologies in crop and tree nursery demonstrated to the farmer.
  • Identify and report on Crop pests and diseases.
  • Ensure agricultural and related statistical information/data is collected.
  • Ensure Climate Resilient Seed Bank and Climate Resilient Demonstration Garden are set up.
  • Training farmers and carrying out demonstrations in modern agronomic practices.
  • Identifying crop pests and diseases and advising farmers on control measures.
  • Monitoring and reporting on natural disasters.
  • Producing periodic reports on the implementation of activities.
  • Collecting and compiling agricultural statistical data.
  • Implementing agricultural development activities of the project.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Agronomist.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Diploma in Agriculture or related discipline from a recognized Institution.
  • At least two (02) years of field-related experience.
  • Project Management.
  • Records and information management.
  • Effective communication.
  • Concern for quality standards.
  • Time management.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Fluent in Luganda.
