Position: Research Fellow for the Childhood Asthma Study
Reports to: Principal Investigator
Effort time: 40 – 60 %
Duration: 1 Year, renewable upon satisfactory performance and funds availability
Job Summary:
The Research Fellow will support the scientific activities of the “Improving access to asthma care for children and adolescents in Uganda (ACCA)” study at Makerere University Lung Institute. Responsibilities include leading the development of study protocols, training staff, undertaking site assessment visits, supporting data analysis, and contributing to project coordination and dissemination.
Roles/Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of study protocols, data capture forms, SOPs, checklists, and implementation plans.
- Participate in training of study personnel/staff.
- Undertake project site assessment visits.
- Participate in support supervision and mentorship activities.
- Work closely with investigators to provide clean data for analysis plans.
- Support coordination of project activities.
- Ensure study-related documents and SOPs are properly documented and adhered to.
- Organize and attend project meetings.
- Develop program-related documents including presentations, briefs, and reports.
- Participate in scientific dissemination through abstracts and manuscripts.
- Support grant writing for offshoot proposals.
- Participate in capacity-building sessions of the project.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a medical discipline
- Master’s degree in a related discipline (M. Med Pediatrics and Child Health, MPH)
- Proficiency in MS Office Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Valid GCP Certificate, HSP certificate is an added advantage
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a clinical and research setting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Previous experience in conducting research, experience in implementing interventions is advantageous
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Enthusiastic and energetic approach
- Flexibility to occasionally work outside normal hours
- Ability to undertake national and international travel
