About USAID Project:

The USAID Uganda Biodiversity for Resilience (B4R) Activity provides technical assistance to conserve and manage biodiversity in target ecosystems for lasting environmental and economic sustainability. It works closely with key government agencies in four target landscapes of Uganda.

Job Summary:

The Carbon Program Specialist will lead and coordinate all carbon activities for the B4R Kidepo Carbon Program. They will oversee the investment readiness phase, liaise with the Government of Uganda and USAID, and report to the B4R Forestry & Conservancy Program Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the carbon project design and oversee the investment readiness phase.
  • Establish carbon baselines and monitor carbon stocks in the Kidepo landscape.
  • Engage stakeholders and private sector actors in the carbon program.
  • Provide strategic support and technical guidance on carbon project activities.
  • Ensure compliance, quality, and consistency during activity planning and implementation.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Master’s degree and 7 years related work experience or bachelor’s degree and 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in designing and implementing carbon projects in the AFOLU sector.
  • Knowledge of REDD+ processes in Uganda and climate change financing trends.
  • Excellent management, communication, and organization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a team.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning ability.
