Program Overview:

TechnoServe, CRS, and Frontier Co-op are implementing VINES, a five-year, $13 million USDA Food for Progress program aimed at making Uganda the world’s leading supplier of high-quality vanilla. The program seeks to enhance vanilla production, develop market links with US trade networks, and strengthen enabling public policy networks. The program aims to transform the lives of 16,200 farmers, 356 self-employed service and input providers, and 480 processors’ employees by generating 15,820 new on-farm seasonal and permanent processing jobs.

Job Summary:

The Micro Enterprise Counsellor will support the implementation of TechnoServe’s efforts under the VINES Project, focusing on capacity-building for youth entrepreneurs, Farmer Learning Center Hosts, and Farmers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mobilization of participants to the program.
  • Training and retention of project beneficiaries.
  • Aftercare support & reporting.
  • Facilitating the mentoring of entrepreneurs.
  • Collaborating with local stakeholders.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Diploma in a Business-related discipline such as Business studies, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Agribusiness.
  • Two years of field experience with entrepreneurship development, vendor and micro-retailor business support and engagement, and youth and women entrepreneurship support.
  • Strong private sector experience, facilitation skills, and participatory approaches.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and evaluation tools and practices, including the use of online digital platforms for delivering training, data capturing, and reporting.
  • Good computer skills (Excel and MS Word).
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
