About US:
The United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) assists the Secretary-General in fulfilling internal oversight responsibilities through monitoring, internal audit, inspection, evaluation, and investigation. The Inspection and Evaluation Division (IED) conducts independent evaluations on behalf of the Secretary-General and Member States to strengthen accountability, efficiency, effectiveness, and impact in program implementation.

Job Summary:
This internship position is located in the Inspection and Evaluation Division (IED), OIOS. The intern will assist in systematic evidence synthesis on the impact of UN peacekeeping operations, gaining exposure to peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and program evaluation in conflict and post-conflict settings. The internship will be full-time, conducted remotely or in-person in Entebbe, Uganda, and will commence between July and September 2024 for a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extension.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in systematic evidence synthesis on the impact of UN peacekeeping operations
  • Refine and pilot a search protocol for screening databases
  • Extract, file, and organize documents based on inclusion criteria
  • Review, map, and analyze mixed evidence using computerized tools
  • Summarize trends, divergences, and evidence-gaps
  • Visualize findings using computerized tools
  • Take notes during meetings and data collection activities
  • Assist in other ad-hoc activities as needed

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Enrolled in a graduate or final academic year of a first university degree program
  • Studies in political science, economics, international affairs, or related fields
  • Computer literate in standard and advanced software applications, including Microsoft Excel
  • Skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis using data analysis software such as PowerBI, NVivo, R, SPSS, Stata, and/or ethical Artificial Intelligence tools
  • Keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to its Charter
  • Ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs
