Job Title: Employee Relations and Engagement Manager

Job Summary:

The Employee Relations and Engagement Manager will analyze, research, and develop fit-for-service HR tools and resources in employee engagement, employee relations, staff care, learning and development, and people-related data management. This role provides guidance and support to HR Officers in project sites on these areas.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Incident Management/Employee Relations:
    • Develop a holistic approach to investigations.
    • Research tools and best practices for incident management and investigations.
    • Partner with other departments to streamline incident management tools.
    • Conduct training on incident reporting and management.
    • Provide guidance and training on employee relations and conflict resolution.
    • Lead investigations and recommend solutions.
    • Ensure disciplinary cases comply with organizational policy and legal requirements.
    • Serve as the country safeguarding and PSEAH focal point.
  2. Staff Care Strategy and Plan:
    • Develop and implement a strategy for building staff resilience, stress management, and critical incident support.
    • Train HR teams and key leaders in peer support and critical incident stress management.
    • Participate in peer support and critical incident support.
    • Research culturally appropriate stress and trauma support in Uganda.
    • Review occupational health and safety practices.
    • Coordinate with Security Officer for necessary changes.
    • Manage staff wellness/care schemes and ensure staff well-being through policy and practice.
    • Design and manage employee recognition programs and engagement events.
  3. Employee Engagement:
    • Develop an annual employee engagement survey calendar.
    • Support managers in analyzing survey responses and developing action plans.
    • Report on exit survey data to improve retention and address organizational issues.
    • Manage offboarding processes ensuring compliance with policy and legal requirements.
    • Produce monthly HR reports on staff learning and care initiatives.
  4. Staff Learning and Development:
    • Develop comprehensive annual staff training and development plans.
    • Manage the learning and development budget.
    • Source and manage external training partners or consultants.
    • Maintain and update the learning and development tracker.
    • Implement and enhance the Medical Teams Leadership Development Program.
    • Ensure training needs from performance reviews are incorporated into the annual training plan.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, or equivalent. Professional Certificate in Human Resources is an asset. Training of trainers certificate is an added advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of HR generalist experience, including three years focused on staff welfare and employee relations. Direct experience in conducting and concluding investigations. At least two years of experience in planning and leading training programs. Experience with INGOs is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of HR functions, including employee relations, staff care, wellbeing and engagement, and learning and development. Comprehensive knowledge of Uganda labour laws.
  • Skills: Strong coaching, conflict resolution, and staff counseling skills. Proficiency in developing and conducting trainings for small and large audiences, both in person and virtually. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
