The IRC began programming in northern Uganda in 1998 in response to mass displacement and devastation wrought by a rebel group, the Lord’s Resistance Army. In 2002, the IRC expanded to the remote, conflict-affected region of Karamoja and in 2011, began working with refugees in Kampala. Monitoring the influx of South Sudanese refugees at the end of 2015, the IRC began scaling up its response to refugees arriving in the West Nile region. By promoting durable solutions that deliver on the interdependent aims of saving lives, strengthening institutions, and supporting social cohesion, the IRC in Uganda is laying the building blocks for long-term stability and development –bringing people from harm to home. The IRC currently works in 9 districts in Uganda, including Kitgum, Lamwo, Kyegegwa, Moroto, Amudat, Yumbe, Arua, Kasese and Kampala.
Job Summary
The pharmacy technician will provide medication and other health care products to facilities. S / he will perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication for patients and supports pharmacological services by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications. S / he will supervise and provide oversight over the dispensers and continuously provide capacity building to the dispensers in health commodity management.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Coordinating project activities that involve the management and storage of health commodities including pharmaceutical supplies and medical equipment at the facilities. Ensuring that we comply with the WHO GDP standards.
- Ensuring that all pharmaceutical products received in the warehouse are dispatched and utilized at the facility before their expiration dates. Putting strategies in place to ensure appropriate utilization of donor funds by reducing wastage through expiries.
- Ensuring the availability of cost-effective, safe, efficacious, and rational use of pharmaceutical products using different tools e.g., SPARS, IRC Pharmacy Assessment tools etc.
- Strengthening the process of Logistics management of supplies in alignment with MOH guidelines and donor policies.
- Ensure tracking and accountability for all medical and pharmaceutical products as well as related supplies used by the health facilities.
- Support forecasting and quantification of supplies obtained from the warehouse as well use data received from the facility for key decision making.
- Support good storage and distribution practices at both warehouse and facilities.
- Prepare monthly reports for both the donors and internally as IRC.
- Use and regular updating of the available Pharma inventory systems like Rx solution.
- Ensuring capacity building of the dispensers in the management and use of medicines and health commodities in the facilities through constantly training the staffs on the SOPs and any other identified capacity gaps.
- Any other activities as assigned by the supervisor
Minimum Qualifications for IRC Uganda Jobs 2022
- Have a Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
- Active Registration with the Allied Medical Practitioners Council with proof of practising license.
- At least 2 years of experience in a busy NGO setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication or interpersonal skills is a must.
- Proficiency in Computer Microsoft office applications; Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
- Excellent communication skills and analytical skills.
- High level of integrity.
