About Us: The African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (ACTV) is a Non-Governmental organization in Uganda, operating since 1993. Our mandate includes advocacy against torture and providing physical and psychological treatment and rehabilitation, social support, and legal services to survivors of torture.

Job Summary: The Driver will provide transport services, administrative, and logistical support to staff and ACTV’s stakeholders in line with ACTV Policies and Procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive staff, visitors, and other stakeholders to and from various destinations as per ACTV policies and procedures.
  • Conduct pre-travel inspection of vehicles, ascertain journey preparedness, and notify the line manager accordingly.
  • Review assigned travel schedules, plan and document travel routing and timing.
  • Transport ACTV staff and property to assigned locations in line with approved travel plans.
  • Maintain vehicle security before, during, and after travel and report any anomalies in line with the vehicle policy.
  • Maintain cleanliness of ACTV vehicles and conduct routine checks for faults, carrying out basic repairs, and promptly reporting major vehicle faults.
  • Pick up, deliver, and account for all correspondences (mails, messages, parcels) in line with instructions and known office practice.
  • Provide support to staff and stakeholders in the field, including soliciting financial advances, making purchases for required goods, and providing logistical support.
  • Log official and private mileages and provide accountabilities.
  • Check and update the validity of statutory requirements (Vehicle logbook, insurance status, and driving license).

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Clean vehicle and minimal complaints.
  • Compliance with road traffic laws and internal policies.
  • Zero accidents.
  • Timely execution of errands.
  • Zero complaints of vehicle misuse.
  • Zero complaints of misplaced documents.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • UACE with at least a credit in English at UCE level.
  • Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics and defensive driving.
  • Valid driving license.
  • Two years of driving experience from a recognized institution.
  • Age: 35 years and below.

Competencies:

  • Communication skills.
  • Defensive driving skills.
  • Basic mechanic knowledge.
  • Attention to safety.
