Overview:

Save the Children International Uganda is seeking a dedicated Director of Operations (DO) for the USAID/Uganda Urban Health Activity. This role involves overseeing project implementation across Kampala, Mukono, and Wakiso, managing sub-grants, and ensuring compliance with USAID regulations. The DO will report directly to the COP and play a key role in achieving program goals.

Role Purpose:

The DO will lead the implementation of high-impact interventions, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure adherence to project objectives and reporting requirements. They will also support the COP in managing the urban health system strengthening activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure successful project implementation according to donor agreements and government regulations.
  • Coordinate with implementing partners and stakeholders to achieve program objectives.
  • Design and update annual work plans and monitor progress towards completion.
  • Provide oversight and support for subgrant selection, management, and capacity strengthening.
  • Contribute to project reporting processes and ensure timely submission of reports to the donor.
  • Mentor and supervise direct reports to achieve program goals.
  • Maintain relationships with government agencies, NGOs, and other partners.
  • Lead adaptation of the project based on data and learning.
  • Collaborate with SC offices in subgrant management, procurement, and capacity strengthening.

Minimum Requirements & Key Skills:

  • Master’s degree in management, public health, or development studies.
  • 8 to 10 years of experience managing operations for large, complex programs.
  • Previous experience with USAID-funded programs in operations-focused roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading operations and coordinating with multiple partners.
  • Ability to work equitably with local partners and use data to inform project interventions.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with a track record of delivering results on time and on budget.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills.
