The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Uganda is seeking a qualified Senior Community-Based Protection Associate to join their team in Arua. As part of the Protection Unit, you’ll collaborate with various stakeholders to empower communities and ensure their protection. Your role involves understanding the needs of people of concern (PoC), including vulnerable groups, and developing strategies to address these needs. This includes fostering community involvement, conducting assessments, and implementing protection programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate participatory and community-based approaches into the protection strategy.
  • Stay updated on developments affecting the protection environment and advise accordingly.
  • Engage with host communities to enhance the protection of PoC.
  • Collaborate with partners to address various concerns of displaced and local communities.
  • Analyze community capacities and risks they face, contributing to assessments and consultations.
  • Plan and monitor programs and budgets with an Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) perspective.
  • Facilitate community representation and coordination structures.
  • Ensure community understanding of UNHCR’s accountability and quality assurance commitments.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum four years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or two years with a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Certificates and/or experience in Development, Human Rights, International Law, Social Work, Social Science, or Political Science.
  • Proficiency in English and/or the UN working language of the duty station.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of UNHCR learning programs (PLP) and MSRP.

Functional Skills:

  • Essential: IT literacy, familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), knowledge of UN/UNHCR administrative rules, principles of community-based protection, stakeholder management, and capacity building.
