Job Description: Field Officer (Full-time)

Job Summary:

Innovation: Africa Uganda is seeking a highly trained and qualified individual to join our team as a Field Officer. The Field Officer is part of the Program Team and is responsible for implementing Innovation: Africa’s field project activities. Under the supervision of the Country Manager, the Field Officer supports activities related to the identification and implementation of new projects in Uganda. Responsibilities include selecting beneficiaries, implementing projects, reporting, and liaising with the community. The Field Officer will travel to the field to search for new projects, mobilize communities, ensure project ownership, and monitor established projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all field operations throughout the project’s lifespan: prospective project search, project implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Sensitize communities, establish steering committees, coordinate income-generating activities for project sustainability, and manage training programs for elected committees.
  • Ensure hygiene and sanitation are achieved in communities.
  • Support the Country Manager in managing relationships with government and district stakeholders.
  • Send updates and reports to the management team on the implementation of ongoing projects and monitor established projects.
  • Participate in beneficiary selection processes.
  • Organize community meetings, training, and sensitization with targeted communities.
  • Track the progress of ongoing field activities, conduct community mobilization, and oversee the technical implementation of iA’s projects.
  • Conduct Monitoring and Evaluating (M&E) of completed projects according to the Country Manager’s working plan.
  • Develop weekly, monthly, and quarterly implementation work plans and ensure effective implementation and monitoring of all activities.
  • Office tasks: filling in forms, submitting reports, taking pictures and uploading them, answering emails, and reporting on Slack channels.
  • Prepare, manage, and participate in visits from the international team, donors, and guests.
  • Represent Innovation: Africa at community, district, and government levels at relevant forums and meetings.
  • Respond to communications such as email or Slack promptly.
  • Execute any other task required by the Country Manager according to the work plan to contribute to the success of the operation.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ previous experience in community development.
  • Good computer skills, including email and office software.
  • Driver’s license and off-road driving experience.
  • Ability to commit to flexible working hours.
  • High proficiency in English for speaking, writing, and reading (mandatory).
  • Proficiency in the local language(s) of the Mbale Region.
  • Educational background in international development or community development is beneficial.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with colleagues across time zones and continents.
  • Dedicated team player with community project experience.
  • Detail-oriented, problem-solving skills, and a passion for human development.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a community-related field such as Development Studies, Social Works and Administration, Human Development (Family Studies), or related fields.
  • Knowledge of software packages such as Microsoft Office applications is an added advantage.

Compensation:

  • Commensurate with experience.
