Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd. [KCL] is a member of the Volcafe group, the coffee division of ED&F Man. It is the oldest and largest coffee exporter in Uganda and the first to become ISO 9001:2008 certified. We buy Arabica and Robusta in all coffee producing regions and export about 15% of Uganda’s coffee production to over 30 consuming countries around the world. Job Summary:
The Washing Station Manager will ensure that all cherries received at the washing station are properly processed, washed, sorted, stored, and shipped according to Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions while ensuring that all documents are accurately and timely recorded.
Roles and responsibilities:
- The Washing station Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the station and is responsible for all the activities that take place in the washing Station
- Make sure the quantity, outturn and volume of procurement cherries reach the goals set by management on the budget.
- Ensure that cherries are purchased at the washing station and buying units in accordance with the Quality standard parameters given in SOPs and timely collecting the cherries from the buying units.
- Ensure that all operations such as cherry processing, washing, dripping drying and dispatching are carried out in accordance with the instructions provided in the Standard
- Operating Procedures and work instructions.
- Prepare and send daily and weekly financial reports to the Management team.
- Ensure that all documents provided are well documented and timely submitted to the Engineering and Production Coordinator.
- Immediately report to the Engineering and Production Coordinator in the event of any mechanical breakdown, cherry / parchment quality problem or theft at the washing station.
- Maintain a proper materials stock inventory for all items received at the washing station.
- Ensure that the certification standard guidelines are followed at all levels of processing.
- Internal inspection duty. “Coordinate the implementation of the internal inspections for your station (unit) to ensure team targets are met.
- In the Season Completion Report, inform management on the parts to be ordered, the challenges at the washing station, and areas to be upgraded.
- Always Maintaining the washing station clean and orderly.
- To correctly and safely keep equipment / tools issued in the course of work.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma in Mechanical engineering or a related field. Or a related field.
- Must display a working knowledge of coffee production
- At least 2-years of work experience in the coffee sector.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Proficiency in both spoken and written English is a must
- Displays ability to work well in a group setting with understanding of corporate hierarchy and chain of reporting
- Must display a forward-thinking ability to analyse and propose solutions to problems that may exist in their field of work to strengthen KCL operations
- Good communication skills are a must.
- Must display an ability to adapt to changing work/field conditions and resourcefulness in completing sometimes challenging tasks.
- Ability to work in a start-up environment as part of a core team building the organization from ground-up.
- Excellent numeric ability & analytical skills.
- Sound planning skills.
- Good inter-personal as well as intra-personal skills.
- Emanate role model behaviour and exhibit team-based work culture.
- Ability to think in an innovative manner.
- Must have strong negotiation skills.
