Job Title: Clinical Officer – Karamoja

About Us: The African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (ACTV) is a Non-Governmental organization in Uganda, operating since 1993. Our mandate includes advocating against torture and providing physical and psychological treatment, rehabilitation, social support, and legal services to survivors of torture.

Job Summary: The Clinical Officer – Karamoja will lead in assessing, examining, and providing quality medical treatment to survivors of torture and violence, aiming to restore their physical well-being while adhering to organizational policies, professional standards, and legal obligations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Examine, counsel, and provide medical treatment to survivors of torture.
  • Collaborate with other health professionals and clinic colleagues for further client evaluation and management.
  • Refer clients to specialized health professionals and follow up on referred cases for progress made.
  • Prepare clients’ medical reports for submission to relevant institutions.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in cases of torture when summoned by court.
  • Participate in outreach activities, including visits to places of detention as per the agreed plan.
  • Contribute to the planning and budgeting for the Medical unit following ACTV guidelines.
  • Contribute to proposal writing and other ACTV fundraising initiatives.
  • Prepare and produce periodic reports for the unit as per agreed timelines.
  • Carry out any other work-related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution.
  • Training in counseling is an added advantage.
  • Two years of working experience.
  • Previous work in a Non-Governmental Organization is an added advantage.
  • Languages: Fluency in English, proficiency in karimojong language.
  • Aged between 25 – 35 years.
