About the Job:
ZOA Uganda is seeking a Land Rights Officer initially based in Kabale and later relocating to Mbale. The role involves supporting the delivery of trainings at district and sub-county levels to enhance capacity on customary land registration processes. This position is part of the A-GRIP project, which aims to strengthen food security and resilient farming systems through increased accessibility, availability, and quality of land tenure security, agriculture, and food security services.

Responsibilities:
Project Specific:

  • Support the delivery of training on land registration processes with sub-county and district staff.
  • Coordinate stakeholders to facilitate the smooth rollout of training and mobilization of relevant participants.
  • Ensure quality assurance of training sessions to meet project expectations.
  • Monitor and report on project activities, challenges, issues, and achievements regularly.

Reporting:

  • Maintain records and submit MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) data into the project database.
  • Contribute to implementation plans and activity/monthly reports.

General:

  • Implement project activities in line with the project proposal, ZOA, and donor procedures and targets.
  • Adhere to ZOA’s code of conduct and safeguarding policies, ensuring projects are implemented with a “Do No Harm” approach.

Accountability:

  • Sensitize stakeholders on feedback and complaint mechanisms implemented by ZOA Uganda.
  • Document and report complaints or feedback following correct reporting procedures.

Requirements:
Knowledge & Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Law, Land Management, Social Science, Social work, or related fields.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar position implementing projects with training and capacity development components.
  • Technical knowledge of customary land ownership processes and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) at the community level is advantageous.
  • Understanding of the local context, culture, and languages in the project implementation area is beneficial.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written).
  • Innovative, creative, and enthusiastic mindset.
  • Result-oriented with a passion for learning.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiatives with limited supervision.
  • Must possess a valid motorcycle riding license.
