National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) Profile:

The National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) was established by the Animal Breeding Act, 2001. It is one of the statutory semi-autonomous bodies of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF). Formation of NAGRC &DB was part of the fulfilment of the aspirations in the National Animal Breeding Policy (1997), document and the Action Plan for its implementation providing guidelines to all actors in the animal breeding and production value-chain. The actors included input suppliers, farmers, companies, researchers, extension workers and civic leaders on suitable breeds for the various ecological and production systems.

 

 

Job Summary:

The Estates Officer/ Civil Engineer will supervise and ensure proper development and sustenance of physical and roads infrastructure, projects and maintenance of civil engineering works of the institution.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the planning, supervision and implementation of unit budgets, projects and programs;
  • Provides support towards the safe custody of records pertaining to titling of the institution’s land or renewal of leases as appropriate;
  • Supports the supervision and periodic valuation of the Centre’s estates, not withstanding the execution of internally initiated or outsourced construction, rehabilitation and repair civil engineering works;
  • Provides support towards the development of viable civil engineering projects or designs that meet the needs of the institution or as requested by the technical Units;
  • Provides technical support in the sourcing for external contractors in the procurement process and supports the drafting of technical specifications for civil engineering contracts;
  • Provides input in monitoring, supervision and reporting on the status of the institution’s physical infrastructure;
  • Supports the development and execution of schedules for periodic preventive maintenance of the institution’s physical infrastructure;
  • Supports the technical Units in generating realistic technical specifications for civil engineering works during the budgeting process;
  • Undertakes any other official duties as assigned by the immediate Supervisor.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • The applicant must hold a degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised University
  • A Post-graduate qualification in Estates Management or a relevant Civil Engineering discipline from a recognised institution is an added advantage.
  • Registration by the Engineers Registration Board of Uganda and membership of a recognized professional engineering body like the Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers or equivalent institution is desirable.
  • Should have well developed leadership, interpersonal relationship, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Should be computer literate, capable of using word processing, spreadsheet, database and engineering software packages.
  • Should have sound knowledge of project management, strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Working experience of at least three (3) years in civil engineering from a reputable organisation.
  • Age Limit: 25-40 Years
