Job Title: Legal Officer (Fresher Jobs)

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) plays a crucial role in standardization, quality assurance, metrology, and laboratory testing with the goal of fostering fair trade, supporting local industries, and safeguarding consumers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assisting in reviewing policies and procedures to align with relevant laws.
- Conducting legal research, interpreting laws/regulations, and preparing legal opinions and briefs.
- Defending and representing UNBS in legal proceedings like litigation, mediation, and arbitration.
- Prosecuting criminal offenses under various acts and legislation related to UNBS.
- Drafting contracts, MOUs, and other legal documents.
- Training staff on laws and regulations pertinent to UNBS operations.
- Managing legal document verification, filing, and safe custody.
- Translating and interpreting contract and legal documents for staff.
- Maintaining and updating a database of all court matters involving UNBS.
- Preparing and submitting reports as per the set timelines.
- Executing other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Must hold an Honours Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
- At least two years of experience in legal practice.
- Membership in the Uganda Law Society with a valid practicing certificate.
- Must be an advocate of the High Court.
- Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and knowledge of UNBS’s legislative, strategic, and operational framework.
- Computer literate with proficiency in MS Office and internet applications.
- Excellent communication skills, integrity, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Age: Between 25 and 35 years.
