The Danish Institute for Human Rights (the Institute) is the national human rights institution in Denmark with a mandate to work internationally.

Job Description:

The Danish Institute for Human Rights is expanding its engagements in Uganda through a pilot project carried out jointly in a consortium. We are seeking a full-time Finance and Admin Officer based in Kampala to support the implementation of project activities in Uganda.

Main Tasks:

  • Support the Copenhagen-based Project Manager in administrative, budgeting, and supervisory tasks.
  • Ensure financial accountability and budgetary supervision of project activities in Uganda.
  • Maintain knowledge of donor’s financial guidelines and internal financial guidelines.
  • Quality ensure partner activity budgets and ensure expenditures comply with donor guidelines.
  • Collect, check, and archive documentation for project expenditure.
  • Prepare and validate monthly financial reports for project activities in Uganda.
  • Support the national Human Rights Adviser with reporting relating to project activities.
  • Maintain close cooperation with local partners and promote local ownership of the project.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a branch office.
  • Provide assistance in planning and organizing trainings, workshops, events, and staff missions.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BA or relevant degree in accounting, business management, or similar.
  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience with project economy or financial management, preferably with international organizations and/or donors.
  • Experienced Microsoft Excel user and experience working with financial management systems.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Ugandan national.

  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Well-organized, flexible, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to comply with procedures and meet deadlines.

Work Conditions:

The Finance and Admin Officer will be based in Kampala, possibly with some travels to local project areas.

Starting Date: As soon as possible, and no later than 15 June 2024.

Contract Duration: 12 months, renewable dependent on performance and funding availability.
