Job Profile

The Advocacy & Public Relations Assistant is responsible for strengthening the capacity of the project in advocacy, public relations and for planning, implementation and coordination of the advocacy & public relations outputs in the projects.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • The Advocacy & Public Relations Assistant will map key stakeholders in Acholiland and their policies
  • The Advocacy & Public Relations Assistant will also collect data using web resources, newspapers, meetings and also contribute to writing reports
  • Assist the Advocacy & Public Relations Officer in analyzing information for all advocacy campaigns and framework
  • Propose advocacy avenues/forums/platforms
  • Assist the Advocacy & Public Relations Officer in the development and/or regular updating of the Advocacy Policy, strategies and action plans for all of ADRA’s projects and programs
  • Assist in the overall planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the advocacy policy, strategies and action plans in all of ADRA’s projects and programs
  • Assist the Advocacy & Public Relations Officer in the development of fundable project/program proposals on advocacy
  • Collect project data and write advocacy articles and case stories for publication in ADRA Newsletters, Annual Reports, ADRA website, and in national/international publications
  • Identify and document lessons learned as well as best practices in advocacy in the project and share them with ADRA staff and other relevant partners
  • Assist in training ADRA staff in the Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) and how to work with advocacy issues in their program areas
  • Support ADRA staff (who will be working with the CBOs) and the local leaders in making their own advocacy plans
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of the different programs in their implementation of advocacy plans
  • Support the CBO/Gs, local leaders and ADRA staff in the identification, articulation, prioritization and documentation of advocacy issues (e.g. indigenous peoples’ rights, gender issues, HIV/AIDS issues e.t.c.) and support forums to enable them to be brought up to the national and/or international levels
  • Represent ADRA in various advocacy forums and events as shall be assigned by your immediate supervisor or ADRA
  • Be responsible for reporting on achievements made or challenges encountered in advocacy issues to stakeholders and donors on a biannual basis
  • Coordinate and develop a good relationship with mainstream media houses and the press

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, International Development or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in media, public relations and/or non-profit media activities and achievements
  • Good administrative and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Networking and collaboration skills
  • Excellent program implementation and report writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability in Data Collection, Data Management and Analysis
  • Computer skills, especially statistical analysis
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Skills in capacity building, training, and coaching
  • Familiar with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the internet
  • Knowledge of project cycle and related tools and methodologies
  • Must be fluent in written and oral English
  • Basic familiarity with the Luo language will be an added advantage
  • Basic cultural knowledge of Acholiland, including the Districts of Agago, Pader, Kitgum, and Lamwo. Working experience with the Luo people will be an added advantage
