Makerere University Walter Reed Project Profile:

Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research Organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, health care and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) to undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP’s portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, surveillance of influenza and influenza- like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also epidemiological, basic and implementation research in HIV treatment, care and prevention programs in the Districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma and Buikwe.

 

 

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide technical support in the planning and implementation of PMTCT, Cervical Cancer Screening (CCS) program activities across supported facilities. S/He is responsible for mentoring health facilities involved in PMTCT & cervical cancer screening and providing treatment for those who are identified as having lesions or who test positive for HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) from the Maternal Child Health (MCH) & ART clinics.

 

 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Support the midwives and health workers at health facilities to provide quality PMTCT & Cervical Cancer screening and treatment services at supported facilities.
  • Develop an effective strategy for tracking and follow up of PMTCT mothers and women with cervical lesions or who test HPV positive.
  • Mentors facility staff to increase their knowledge and skills related to PMTCT & Cervical Cancer screening and treatment services.
  • Assist the sites to develop nursing components, processes and SOPs within the PMTCT & Cervical Cancer Screening program.
  • Strengthen monitoring and evaluation of PMTCT & Cervical Cancer Screening services including utilization of site data to inform quality of care performance at the site.
  • Support sites to compile and submit accurate and complete reports in surge dashboard & hybrid relating to MCH/PMTCT service delivery.
  • Support the roll out of MCH (PMTCT & Cervical Cancer Screening) policies, guidelines and programs as introduced by Ministry of Health and the PEPFAR Program.
  • Represent MUWRP PEPFAR programs at the facility and district level as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications for MUWRP Jobs 2022

  • Diploma/certificate in midwifery from a recognized institution.
  • Training of trainers’ (TOT) certificate will be an added advantage.
  • ART Management training and relevant job experience of at least three (3) years working experience in a local district set up.
  • Must be Registered and Licensed with the Nursing Council of Uganda.
  • More than 3 years’ experience in the implementation of MCH Programmatic activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Experienced at capacity building and facilitating training and mentoring

Physical Availability: Ability to permanently reside in Kayunga /Mukono. Ability to frequently travel to the MUWRP PEPFAR supported sites in Kayunga, Buikwe, Mukono and Buvuma Islands.
