Active in public health, education, livelihoods, women’s empowerment, youth development, and protection and promotion of rights, IRC assists people from harm to home. The IRC was registered in Uganda in mid-1998 and implements rehabilitation activities in the sectors of Protection and development, Health, Economic Recovery and Development and Women Protection and Empowerment as well as contributing to the response to the Refugee situation. IRC Uganda has a head office in Kampala with field offices in Western Uganda, Karamoja, Kampala-Nsambya, and West Nile.
The Play Matters Project (2020-2025) is an education initiative funded by the LEGO Foundation. The project aims to increase play-based learning opportunities for nearly 1 million pre-primary and primary school aged refugee and host community children impacted by the humanitarian crises in East Africa and living in Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Uganda. This project aims to build children’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative skills through play in their homes, schools, and communities and will be implemented in partnership with War Child Holland, Plan International, Behavioral Insights Team and Innovations for Poverty Action.
Job Summary
IRC is seeking to recruit an Education Officer for the Play Matters project to be based in the field locations of Kyegegwa and Lamwo
The Education Officer is overall responsible for quality implementation, day to day coordination of project activities to ensure timely support and effective execution of the activities at school and community level. The role will also assist with capacity strengthening of volunteers and coordination as well as contribute to project monitoring, capacity strengthening and training at community level. S/he will be expected to work in collaboration with other IRC sectors, consortium partners, settlement leadership and education implementing partners and as relevant participate in relevant multisectoral and inter-agency coordination forums and networks at settlement and sub-region levels.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Implement agreed project activities, decisions, and actions (programmatic and operational) as per plans and priorities
- Carry out regular consultations, dialogues, information sharing, and feedback with relevant project and other key stakeholders
- Participate in relevant events, forums, and meetings at community and school level
- Contribute to capacity building of school and community volunteers
- Coordinate distribution of project items, materials and follow up on the utilization by project clients.
- Support community and school mobilization, awareness creation and delivery of project activities
- In liaison with MEAL Manager; support studies, assessments, and dissemination of learnings.
- Prepare and submit periodic and activity reports.
Minimum Qualifications for IRC Uganda Jobs 2022
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education from a recognized university/Institution or Any Humanitarian course
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in education related programming (may include Early Childhood Development (ECD), Accelerated Learning Programs (ALP), Psychosocial Support (PSS), Play, digital learning)
- Experience working in multi-cultural context, refugee population and diverse contexts.
- Experience in education related community-based programming, training, research is added advantage
- Experience and abilities in using participatory techniques and learning
- Ability to work well in and promote teamwork
- Strong communication and reporting skills, both oral and written.
- Good IT skills and knowledge of MS Word; Excel and Outlook required.
