Job Title: Nutrition Assistant

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Participate in Setting up clear targeting criteria, Identification, and verification of target beneficiaries.
  • Act as a liaison between the organization and local communities, building trust and rapport with community members to facilitate effective nutrition programs.
  • Closely work with local communities, sub-county nutrition coordination committees, village health teams, and health facilities to effectively roll out Maternal, Infant, young Child, and Adolescent Nutrition (MIYCAN) guidelines, identify and address nutritional challenges and involve community members in the design and implementation of nutrition interventions.
  • Organize community meetings and awareness sessions to promote the project’s objectives and opportunities.
  • Establish and support care group mothers to effectively promote behavioral change on nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation among their members.
  • Lead in delivering nutrition education sessions and workshops to community members, emphasizing the importance of a balanced diet, healthy eating habits, and the prevention of malnutrition.
  • Provide one-on-one nutrition counselling and support to individuals with specific dietary requirements, health conditions, or those at risk of malnutrition.
  • Work with community leaders to mobilize support for nutrition initiatives, engage community members in program planning, and encourage active participation in nutrition-related activities.
  • Train target communities, on basic nutrition education, cash transfer for Nutrition, and Financial Literacy.
  • Work closely with grass-root healthcare professionals, NGOs, government agencies, and partner organizations to coordinate efforts and leverage resources for maximum impact.
  • Regularly collect data to help assess the impact and effectiveness of nutrition project.
  • Maintain accurate records of project activities, including progress reports, and case studies to demonstrate program effectiveness and impact.
  • Prepare field reports on project activities, including success stories, document achievements, challenges, and lessons learned for project management and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate access to financial services, microcredit, and business development resources for beneficiaries.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, horticulture, public health, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in community engagement, youth development, or related fields.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders, mothers, and children.
  • Knowledge of the West Nile Region and its social, cultural, and economic context is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the West Nile Region, such as Lugbara, Alur, or Madi, is an asset.
  • Familiarity with work in refugee settlements, and refugee host communities is an added advantage.
  • Basic Computer skill is required.
