Stipend: Modest monthly allowance based on level of involvement

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Expected Travel: Occasional domestic travel may be necessary

About Restless Development: Restless Development is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to harnessing the potential of young leaders to make positive changes worldwide. With our independently registered presence in nine countries, including Uganda, we focus on youth-led programs tackling critical issues. In line with our commitment to empowering youth, we seek enthusiastic and committed individuals to join us as Girl Champions.

Job Description: We are seeking dynamic, dedicated, and passionate young women to join Restless Development as Girl Champions. These champions will be situated in Project Implementation Districts within Moroto, Napak, Jinja, Mayuge, and Jinja City. As a Girl Champion, you will undergo training in various areas such as Girl-led research methodology, green entrepreneurship, climate activism, digital advocacy, and storytelling. You will be mentored and, in turn, will mentor other girls in your communities, gaining exposure through national, regional, and global platforms.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in training on Girl-led research and needs assessment.
  2. Engage in workshops covering green entrepreneurship, career skills, climate activism, advocacy, storytelling, and community organizing.
  3. Co-lead an inclusive needs assessment and evidence-building initiative to analyze local situations, barriers, needs, and opportunities.
  4. Conduct community dialogues on gender norms affecting girls’ roles in climate solutions.
  5. Assist in developing climate action plans and co-creating innovative climate solutions through participatory processes.
  6. Facilitate peer support groups and mentorship sessions within the program.
  7. Collaborate in creating a Global Girls Climate Manifesto and launch it at key national and international climate events.
  8. Engage in local coalitions to influence and participate in national networks and platforms.
  9. Ensure the safety and well-being of fellow Girl Champions and community members.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Age range between 18-24 years.
  • Strong passion for youth development and the involvement of young people in decision-making.
  • Completed at least O-level education, current student status, or equivalent experience in youth engagement.
  • Current resident of Jinja City, Jinja, Napak, Moroto, or Mayuge districts.
  • Fluent in both English and the local language of your district.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

Desirable:

  • Ability to fully commit to the program duration.
  • Enthusiasm for climate justice, advocacy, and community engagement.
  • Knowledge or understanding of climate change, climate justice, or advocacy work.
  • We strongly encourage girls from diverse backgrounds to apply.
