ERD Officer Position – International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of ERD Officer to be based in Yumbe, Uganda. The ERD Officer will be responsible for implementing and coordinating Economic Recovery and Development (ERD) activities in Zone 2 of the IRC Bidibidi Office.

Job Overview: Reporting to the ERD Manager, the ERD Officer will lead the implementation of ERD projects and interventions aimed at improving the economic well-being and livelihood opportunities of refugees and host communities. The role involves providing zonal leadership, technical support to ERD assistants and community-based trainers, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure project success. The ERD Officer will also be responsible for data collection, reporting, community engagement, advocacy, and networking.

Roles And Responsibilities:

  1. Project Implementation and sustainability:
    • Ensure high-quality implementation of ERD activities.
    • Lead project interventions, document results, and provide feedback to stakeholders.
    • Provide leadership in beneficiary selection and registration.
    • Promote modern farming practices and techniques.
    • Guide clients on enterprise selection and development.
    • Link farmers and business clients to microfinance opportunities.
  2. Community engagement and advocacy:
    • Coordinate field-level livelihood activities.
    • Mobilize stakeholders and facilitate engagement meetings.
    • Ensure integration of ERD with other sectors and government activities.
    • Collaborate with communities to improve income and food security.
  3. Stakeholders Engagement, Networking, and Collaboration:
    • Engage with key stakeholders and represent IRC in inter-agency fora.
    • Build relationships with partners and government counterparts.
  4. Documentation, Reporting, and knowledge management:
    • Maintain records and write accurate reports.
    • Collect relevant data and participate in assessments and surveys.
    • Profile client information and participate in reflection meetings.
  5. Safeguarding:
    • Monitor child protection issues and report incidents.
    • Sensitize children and stakeholders about children’s rights.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in agriculture, agribusiness, or related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of the local context of West Nile is an advantage.
  • Strong facilitation, training, networking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Valid motorcycle riding license.
