Job Summary:
UGANDA AIRLINES, the flag carrier of Uganda, is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Chief Operations Officer (COO) to join our team in Entebbe. The COO will be responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the airline, including safety, security, risk management, strategy development, budgeting, relationship management, and compliance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safety, Security, Risk management: Ensure all policies are established, communicated, and monitored. Liaise with departments to solve challenges related to safety and security. Train staff on aviation risk management practices.
- Operations Strategy: Formulate and implement functional operations strategy. Develop performance scoreboards and regularly evaluate airline performance. Conduct operations review meetings and implement strategy execution training.
- Budgets and Control: Participate in operational budget write-up, ensure expenses align with the budget, and negotiate contracts for value.
- Operational Feedback Communication: Maintain awareness of operational developments and provide suitable feedback. Collect feedback from staff for improvements and motivate staff to participate in initiatives.
- Relationship Management: Maintain good relationships with regulatory bodies, government ministries, and other stakeholders.
- Compliance and Monitoring: Ensure airline compliance in all operational aspects and oversee mandatory training for operations personnel.
- IT Systems Accuracy: Ensure smooth IT operations for passengers and staff.
- Other Duties: Perform any other duties as required by the CEO.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, engineering, business, or a related field. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Leadership: At least 10 years of senior management experience within aviation, with previous experience as an airline COO or in a similar role preferred.
- Deep knowledge and experience in operational areas, financial acumen, communication, and strategic planning.
- Well-known and respected reputation within the airline industry.
