Application Deadline: May 30, 2024

Women Deliver is thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 Emerging Leaders for Change Program in East Africa. This transformative two-year initiative empowers dedicated young activists, providing them with the resources, platforms, connections, and trainings needed to amplify their advocacy efforts. Women Deliver, committed to gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), has a proven track record of fostering equitable youth engagement and co-leadership.

Program Details:

The Emerging Leaders Program is a focused, well-resourced, thematically-bound initiative designed to co-create each Emerging Leader’s advocacy journey. It has been meticulously developed through:

  • A decade’s worth of invaluable lessons
  • Reflection on Women Deliver’s organizational evolution
  • Extensive consultations with youth and field partners

Women Deliver will collaborate closely with each Emerging Leader, offering flexible funding, support, trainings, and resources tailored to their needs.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Location: The inaugural region for the Emerging Leaders for Change Program is East Africa, covering the following countries: Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Applicants need to reside and conduct their advocacy work in these countries.
    • Special Exception: If residing in one of these countries is unsafe while conducting advocacy work, applicants may still be eligible. Clarify your situation in the application.
      • Example: An LGBTQIA+ rights advocate operating in an eligible country but living in South Africa due to safety concerns.
  • Age: Applicants must be between 15-29 years old as of October 1, 2024. Those under 18 require permission and consent from a parent/guardian.
  • Sex/Gender: The program welcomes all gender and sexual identities, with a focus on individuals identifying as girls, women, or non-binary.
  • Advocacy Focus: Applicants must advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and/or gender equality, particularly targeting advocacy affecting adolescent girls within communities. Preference is given to those interested in or experienced with the focus issue areas: universal health coverage, the climate crisis, and countering the anti-rights movement.
