Program Overview: The U.S. Embassy Kampala is seeking 30 academically gifted Ugandan students interested in pursuing Bachelor’s (BA) or Master’s (MA) degrees in the United States to join the 2024 EducationUSA Scholars Program. This 12-month program aims to facilitate access to U.S. higher education through advising and mentoring during the application process. It is important to note that THIS IS NOT A SCHOLARSHIP, BUT A PREPARATION PROGRAM.

Opportunity Fund Program: Among the 30 finalists, 10 highly qualified and economically disadvantaged students will be selected for the Opportunity Fund Program, which supports talented students in covering the costs associated with the U.S. college application process. This includes expenses such as application fees, standardized testing fees, internet data costs, visa fees, and international airfare. It’s important to note that the Opportunity Fund Program does not guarantee acceptance or financial aid awards at U.S. institutions.

Eligibility for Opportunity Fund Program: To be eligible for Opportunity funding in Uganda, a student must:

  • Be a citizen of Uganda or an officially recognized refugee residing in Uganda
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Apply to Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD programs at accredited U.S. higher education institutions in the fall of 2024
  • Apply for full financial aid
  • For Bachelor’s applicants, a minimum of 18 to 20 points in UACE is required
  • A first degree is required for those applying for graduate studies

Costs for Non-Opportunity Fund Program Students: Students who are not selected for the Opportunity Fund Program should be prepared to cover the costs of the university application process. This may include registration fees for required SAT and TOEFL examinations, college application fees, and SEVIS/VISA fees.

  • Scanned copy of S.6 certificate or pass slip
  • Updated copy of university transcript for graduate students
